that assumption is valid when the government caters to your foreign language and you live in a community that caters to your foreign language
That's human nature, what's pressing me to learn more, if I'm functional as is

The rest of social life? How many hotels/foods/groceries stores/ restuarants have bilingual menus/signs for literally everything?( McDonalds, Chic-Fil-A, Hampton Inn doesn't. Maybe in high concentration areas in Cali and Florida but there are 46 other mainland states.

I know it seems like it to Americans, but life isn't that geared to non-native speakers. Just cause you see the word bano on the bathroom door doesn't mean you can navigate an entire 12hr period without a solid English skill set. The reason so many stay in their small communities is because they know they will be understood so the community cater within themselves with grocery stories and restaurants.

Haven't you seen older Latinos struggling with money conversions at checkout and getting change so they always pay with big bills or have their kids to count?

If they took over the community then...
:yeshrug:

They learn, it just takes time, and a lot of them pretend not to know.

nah. If the manager is bilingual and the job doesn't require interactions with customers, then a bias manager can/will/has been favorable to their non-english applicants because just like you said about the community, they'll be understood
Jobs that require interactions with customers, the excuse for hiring only biliguials to provdie better service because they'll make non-english applicants feel understood

This whole idea sounds made up to support a conjecture.

90% of jobs require interaction with customers/clients. You are selling to someone what you make. But we know the country isn't that bilingual. Opening a small bank in a jewish neighborhood with Hebrew speakers isn't the same as Wells Fargo having five Latino bank tellers out of 20 non-Spanish speakers.

conjecture? don't try to take one sentence out of context, so you could have a reply
Being the topic is about bilingual requirements, the type of job and it's duties are to be considered when talmbowt hiring practices

Am I reading this thread right?

You guys are saying it’s ok for the new age Hispanic immigrants to NOT assimilate?

It's one of three things:
  1. Brokaw is as :mjpls: the people he was talking about.
  2. The message he was giving to Brown people could and has been as easily given to Black people.
  3. He's showing his long-term ignorance in assuming that hispanic people aren't/don't assimilate.

The problem with forced bilingualism is that it puts those that are not bilingual at a severe disadvantage. And it’s not just as simple as “well then just go learn Spanish”.
Actually it is.

Fun fact: 52.6 million people in the US speak Spanish. Get with the times. :mjlol:
