I have my gropes with the movie, but it's watchable....however I kept having to fight myself at a 11am showing.
With that said the symbolism is top notch, there just wasn't enough violence until the end and the vamps and blood spilled look cheesy. It's not a great film.
It's watchable 5/10
Coogler needs to learn how to write better plot holes tie ups so the progression of film to flow better.
Music was nice but after a while I'm like damn, another song?
Smoke and Stack was the most interesting thing about the movie and we got 0 visual background on them. There off screen back story was a better their entire on screen performance in the story!
Coogler also has to stop ushering in all things Cali in everything he does. Damn. We get it. You love Cali. But shyt even Spike Lee can leave NYC out his films.
Coogler will make a movie about New Orleans Jazz music and have the main character be a transplant from Cali that comes to Louisiana, because his grandparents were Creole from NOLA and he needs to discover his roots at Congo Square.
Coogler tries to hard with his symbolism and often at times he becomes convoluted.
Like take the scene where Sammie was jamming and the music was transcending time and space, past present future. We had Crip walking lol wtf
Memphis Jooking and NO footwork was there to use. He just had to keep it southern. That's all he did.
I'm tired of people not from the South making films about the South...why??? Cause they always look like muthafukka made the film ain't from the South.
