you know the greatest thing about tony gwynn?

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about tony gwynn
He really was a hero I guess in San Diego along with Junior Seau. Those two were like the face of the city and again I can’t stress it enough, very cool people.

I remember Seau paid for me and my brothers meal one day when we ate at his sports restaurant just out of the blue:gladbron:

He was a god in San Diego.

Not a baseball fan like that but why doesn't he get more goat talk. Seems like folks talk about him like a novelty.

Nah, metrics guys hate Ichiro, too.

Really? Is that more of a recent thing, or has it always been that way?

All I can recall is people gushing about how he was a machine at getting himself to first, and most criticisms were countered with "He could easily hit homers if he wanted, but he's choosing to hit singles to help the team"

Died way too young at 54.

Can't be overweight and on the dipping tobacco 24/7.
:mjcry:

People used to try to discredit him because he was "a singles hitter", too.

That was nonsense too.. he would be way more respected nowadays over 20 year span and he had an OPS career of .847 and that wasn't no hitters park
