Cube has 6 better records than the ones you just listed. The confuse biggies lyrical skills with being a “great storyteller”

Cube doesn't have anything as detailed or cinematic as "Somebody's Gotta Die", "I Got A Story To Tell" or "N*ggaz Bleed". G Rap actually has better storytelling joints with Jinx than Cube does. G Rap took the same producer that Cube had a year earlier and made better detailed stories. Cube has a ton of classic sh*t, but his stories were never on the level of "On The Run" or "Edge of Sanity". And G Rap's got a million more.

People gotta stop being biased based on where they're from, and be more objective about the music. Dudes keep talking about "influence" like that means it's better. There will always be someone who does something first, but that doesn't make them more talented. Chuck D sued B.I.G.'s estate and DJ Premier after he passed away for a sample. And he helped Cube on his first album. He's not gonna be impartial. He always had an issue with B.I.G. But if we're keeping it just focused on the actual music, Cube had a lot dope stories, but they weren't on the level of the stories that other greats had.

Those arguing over quantity are idiots..It'll always be quality over quantity, and both Cube and Big are in my top ten..

Death Certificate is one of my favorite albums. There is no bias.

You're too old to be talking about East Coast/West Coast. I'm talking about music. And even with DC being one of my favorite albums, that doesn't mean that Cube told better stories than G Rap or B.I.G. So if you're saying he has better joints, what are they? Because as much as I love his early work, I can't see anything in that catalogue that can f*ck with those G Rap joints I named or the joints from B.I.G.

wrong
you have to factor in quantity as well, cause thats what shows longevity and also what that rappers average ability is.

Of course, biggie might just be the exception there becuase of his early death and lack of material (unlike pac)

argued on this post when it came out

Biggie is legendary ... but Cube has way better work... the storytelling BS can be debunked through NWA shyt and Today Was A Good Day overshadowing most hiphop songs .... and storytelling tracks in the history of music... people tried to make it Biggie vs ice cube ... but its a better argument to go Ice Cube Vs Biggie
you would have to match content on Biggie's side.... to even remotely catch up to the year Biggie even dropped as a rapper against Cube .. then try to pretend that Ice Cube wasnt hiphop media darling and one of the most prominent Rappers in the late 80s and early 90s on a fully commercial, international level on TV and Movies. He's one of the biggest, most well written and represented artists in the history of hiphop with a handful of classic albums and content

  • “Warning”
  • “I Got a Story to Tell”
  • “Ni**as Bleed”
  • “Suicidal Thoughts”
  • “Gimme the Loot”
  • “Somebody’s Gotta Die”
Those are all TOP TIER storytelling tracks.

BIG is the GOAT

If anything the guy who rivals BIG the most besides Nas/Slick Rick is probably Ghostface Killah if we’re being completely honest. Ice Cube is top 5 though.

Storytelling in rap is the most overrated shyt. It’s all usually generic stories.

kick push imo is the best

I think the one thing I used to hate about storytelling hip hop is the following trope:

"AYO I USED TO KNOW A KID NAME SHYREED, WHO USED TO SELL WEED"

"Yo I knew a shorty from around the way"

"Once upon a time *insert hood name*"

I fukking cringed at this basic ass trope.

The way Nas, Rick, Cube, Face, and Biggie did stories was profound. Like they were having a conversation or on some hitchcock shyt. It's intricate and feels vivid versus "ayo I knew a dopefiend name Steve who was very mean". Like fukk off with this ABC nonsense :scust:.

Reminds me of when Hov tried to do storytelling and it was so friggin pathetic :scust:
