really really cool stuff OP! got a recommendation for someone starting out? i want to invest in a nice digital camera but i honestly dont know a damn thing about it. some of my friends back in the day were photography majors and did stuff with analog film, they showed me how to develop a couple times in a darkroom. i'd love to get more into it i just dont know where to start

If your focus is photo and not video (I do both)
Grab the Sony full frame that’s in your budget. The lense is most important. If you can avoid it don’t start with the kit lenses that come with cameras. Grab a 50MM for like $200

do they sell a kit with that lens? i'm fine with buying a better lens later but if you can recommend a starter kit im down. i got about $600 budgeted.

i just did about $300 in returns and my ebay store is taking off so i've got over $500 to put in right now

My primary camera Body: a7RV $4000 (you can find closer to 3k these days.

My primary lense: USED sigma 24-70 $900

I went through 3 different camera bodies, looking to start cheap and just kept upgrading. Wasted money doing that.

You’ll probobly never need a $4000 camera body. (I have video specs I also need). In your price range, I’d grab a used a7II. And then grab a affordable used lens like this Amazon.com

With that body and lens, you can take incredible images. Kit lenses are worthless and that’s the first mistake we all make. Grab anything but a kit lens
