right?
Stop it man.
Land is scarce. Few skyscrapers are built because of the NIMBY crowd. You also can't build as many skyscrapers because of earthquakes and the soft spongy soil in SF whereas New York's soil is solid bedrock. This limits the amount of commercial and residential housing in the city. So it spreads out into the neighboring suburbs. Which raises the rents of anything within a tolerable commute to SF or SV. You have millions of people working in the tech industries there in SF, SJ and SV all making six figures. These guys raise the prices for the available valuable housing. Alot of those guys settle there long term, purchasing homes. You have hundreds of companies going public, growing into massive corporate entities, providing a tax base for those cities. The area becomes more affluent, enticing more people to move there for the schools/jobs/amenities, raising the property values further, which raises the property taxes. Landowners can't afford to keep paying the taxes on a building when the rent is $1,200. So they raise the rents to $2,500-$3,500 and all you broke nikkas are out

They move in rich white millennials. Some who are tech workers, some who are young rich and white and want to experience urban life in a safe bubble (away from poor blacks). Or a company offers to buy the land/building from him and build luxury lofts/condos. Process repeats and reverberates throughout the entire area, all in towns that are within a 20-30 mile commute. ALL OF THIS IS FUELED BY THE TECH INDUSTRY
