I feel like most cars are relatively safe to buy nowadays. Ever since the US automakers adopted Toyota's manufacturing process there have been less issues in production.

Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda

Toyota and Honda are a step above Hyundai. Me personally, I don't like the sound of their engines compared to the other 2. They have long warranties for their vehicles, but I trust the Japanese a little more with it. I'd probably buy a Kia before Hyundai. They are both owned by the same folks and the Kias look better.
