A poll from the journal Nature found that 75% of researchers in the U.S. are considering leaving the country. That includes a man who’s been dubbed the "Mozart of Math." Stephanie Sy examines what’s behind a potential scientific brain drain.

MAGA at its core is anti intellectualism. It can't survive without ignorance so it must be anti intellectual. So this is not surprising.

Also highly intelligent people have no problem picking up another language whether Chinese, Spanish or anything else. Many STEM geniuses already speak multiple languages and are cultured.

Dumb people don’t understand that because they think these geniuses are like them: not capable of dropping everything and leaving because transition is too difficult. They fail to realize that smart people aren’t stuck like the rest of them.

The top 10-20% of intellect whether domestic or foreign born have been absolutely carrying this country. They can leave this mess whenever they want and create some big voids that won’t get filled and pull other bright people with them.

We went back to coal, oil and natural gas after decades of Clean and Renewable Energy Research and Development. You think the former is what researchers want to do? You go in a direction that hurts animals, wild life and the planet like it’s ok. You think Scientists and Engineers want to go in that direction? Those are intellectually unsatisfying for one and a dead end for another.

Look at how America demonizes science and scientists. Really any who exercises any type of critical thought.

A big part of NASA and their employees just went nearly two months without pay, many NASA scientists got laid off after the recent shutdowns closed the laboratory they were working on.

National Science Foundation had funding cut and heavy layoffs have been hitting them through the year.

You give more rights to hunters than to the Researchers and Engineers trying to help wild life and the world out.

This is how you want to treat Scientists and Engineers? These are the best and brightest and you cater to the dumb instead. Of course you’ll push them away because they’re not the everyday simpleton you’re taking for granted.

We were just discussing this. I know four people who have already left. Australia, Canada, Germany, and the UK are all offering deals to American scholars to relocate, and Japan is essentially paying academics to move there and work. It's a good deal. I'm definitely looking at other places to live. Once my parents pass, I really won't have a reason to stay here. I know at least two more colleagues who are making long-term plans.
