Why was she never as appreciated in the black community? I read online that she donated to the Malcolm X movie when it was being made.

Was it because of how she looked (at least back then) or the content of her songs? Was it just too "folky" for people to get at that time?

I still remember In Living Color making fun of her


I didnt really listen to the music till about 4 or 5 years ago.

I put her in the same bracket and category as Lauryn Hill after she realized a lot of things.
