kids don't care about defense and proper ball movement they just wanna do dribble dribble Kyrie cross leg over back Allen Iverson step back Luka pumpfake throw the ball at the basket Vince Carter turnaround 360

You both can’t be serious lol

Maybe it’s because I grew up in the DC area, but everything about AAU ball right now was happening when j was of age back then.

Thats not including the shoe camps/leagues.

Has it gotten Worse? Hell yeah. I think the hoop factories high schools are actually worse for young players than AAU.

But this culture was present back when TMac was coming up. I remember people using Kobe as a counter to that because he didn’t grow up in this country and wasn’t exposed to AAU culture.
The $ bill wasnt thee overall deciding factor back then, more scrubs on AAU teams now then back in the day too. Plus the talent pool was still deep in your inner city neighborhood highschools..

Not true :heh:

This is true, except not just inner cities but public schools.

Thats nothing to do with AAU and everything to do with the hoop factories, from my understanding.

personally, I think the NBA needs to step up and take it over, but they won’t.

the issue with hoops culture in the states is THE CULTURE

overseas your children are going to be developed by professionals

here your children are going to be developed by former dope dealers & rap nikkas

This is the problem right here. After spending years in grassroots AAU, this is the first year in a Decad where I removed myself from the madness that is youth basketball.

You know it isn’t going to get any better until they rid the culture of the ranking systems and the exposure camps.

AAU, hoops in general was totally different back wheh he/we were coming up. It was still legit/done the right way :myman:

It was rhe supplement then.

Not the main component.
It turned hoops into overseas junior tennis. Where high school grassroots players took a complete backseat.
to the world fringe outlier player pro. Who was allowed to get prize money. Then also still allowed as a foreign exchange student to garner a ncaa scholarship. While alternatively the real grassroot collegiate age usta national and world junior circuit domestic American talent. We're not allowed any ability to violate mcaa sanctions like the foreign pros. That allowed scholarships. While making it next to impossible for a domestic junior to go pro. Then not accept the prize money. Same here.

Total devalue and erosion of the grassroots domestic player.

They tripping. these kids are dumb as hell.
they have all the choreographed moves down

dribbling like they are trying to make a tiktok

but they don't see what is in front of them in live action

terrible decision makers that don't see what's happening on a 5v5 level

the .1% that actual have some sense stand out like redheaded stepchildren HA

He is right, but he grew up in that AAU culture.

America got a youth sport development problem
Yeah but Mac had fundamentals down to a T. He mastered the 3 step dribble offense which a majority of todays player would struggle to be efficient in. Orlando TMac was one of my favorite to watch. one of the top 5 most skilled player k had the pleasure of watching
