Because honestly it looks like that is the direction we are heading in. Doesn't anyone find it strange how Microsoft, Sony and these 3rd party developers are still supporting the 360 and the PS3 till this day? Exactly why can't this work going forward with better tech? I think $400 every 3 years for better hardware isn't that bad at all actually.

If they can do it with the extreme difference in performance between the 360 and PS4, why not the XB1/PS4 to XB1.5/PS4.5 ? I like the idea of newer hardware refreshes. Plus considering that I think the PS4 and XBOX One will get another price drop to go along with it I think everyone wins. The damn 360 and PS3 brand new are still going for $200+ :comeon:

There are several games that came out for the current and last gen and are the full experiences (apart from graphical differences obviously)

Watch Dogs
Tomb Raider
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Titanfall
MLB The Show
Black Ops 3?
NBA 2K
Madden
The Evil Within
Resident Evil 4 (lol)

With hardware that isn't that outdated there will be even more. I think this is good for the industry :ehh:

I am tempted to throw in GTA V and TLOU, but the experiences are so different that I feel like it almost doesn't count

IDC if they just scale games like on PC. If we can both buy the same game and just say play it on PS4 at 30 fps 1080p with high textures and then play the same game on PS4.5 at 60fps 1080p with ultra textures I'm fine with it. With development cycles as long as they are it'd be hard to just abandon the hardware outright every 3 years though.

All signs point that they won't abandon them. They are still supporting 10+ year old hardware.

The problem is history has shown us that a lot of the heavy hitters come out a few years into the console's life span. I agree with Phil Spencer's notion on this. Consoles should not be locked to one gen. I think a PS4 should be able to play all PS1 - PS3 games as well as some PS5 and possibly PS6 games (In lower graphics settings of course). This is a problem only seen in console gaming and it sucks.

it's cuz every gen the architecture changes. This gen though it seems like they'll be using X86 architecture which should facilitate this. It should be like how PC's work where booty graphics cards will have to knock down settings to hit 30fps or 60fps. Powerful cards should be able to.

Hell, if this refresh shyt means I can play Naughty Dog games with even better fidelity during the same gen, I'm all for it. I was annoyed that TLOU came out in June while a few months later PS4 came out. I wanted to just play that on a PS4.

You didn't HAVE to play it on the PS3, no patience?

Plus the reason the difference was so drastic was because the PS3 was ancient. Let's say the PS3 had late 2009 hardware inside...the difference will still be there, but nowhere near as drastic as how we got it.

It was June and the PS4 release date wasn't known nor did we know we'd get such a surge of remasters on PS4 since on PS3 it seemed like it was only a few cases. I know about the drastic differences though, I had built a PC Nov 2012 and already saw how old PS3 was. Plus nikka this is TLOU we're talking about, no fukking way I would wait. That and GTA V were day one buys. Imagine the PC gamers who're still waiting on Red Dead Redemption.
