They look like a 500 team. Looking at their numbers now they are middle of the pack on both sides of the ball with a 13-9 record once Trae went down. Trades are allowed starting today but I don't think they are moving

2 years ago Trae was a monster offensively and was one of the top impact players on O in the league. He's slipped since. If they don't think he can return to form and don't want to extend him - trade everyone not named JJ and Okongwu and see what you can do. I don't think Atlanta can partially rebuild.
He’s entered that Ben Simmons era where people are still stuck on what they think he could be & living in the past. He’s a small guard who is a mid level 3pt shooter. Once it was clear he wasn’t going to be a sniper ATL should have pivoted for a #1.

He makes sense for Milwaukee in a Giannis trade scenario. Trae would keep them relevant and somewhat competitive/entertaining.

Giannis for Trae, Risacher and Newell works salary wise. Then it's a matter of how many picks to get it done. That 2026 Pels first is the golden goose. That alone trumps anything another team can offer.
I doubt Giannis goes for that & any team trading for him would be stupid if he doesn’t sign off

I thought it was crazy people thought Trae was this monster 3pt shooter, when he was league average. Also wasn't an elite spot up shooter. Trae's strengths were always his elite FT draw and passing.

Once JJ and Dyson started playmaking and Trae was still shooting 41%... :francis:

Man that shyt must be tough for ATL.

When you factored in the volume of 3s he took, difficulty of many of the shots off the dribble and the clutch factor he passed the eye test for being an elite shooter. His stats said average but he wasn’t when it mattered.

Man that’s a tough take. I’ll take your word for it because you watch him play. The numbers are the numbers though and they suck.

I now believe they shouldn’t trade him this year. Unless you get an offer you can’t refuse, the Hawks should hope he is learning as he sits. When he comes back, hopefully he keeps the ball moving and picks his spots. Hopefully he shoots well and within the system.

Anybody in the East can get it this year. Knicks are finding their footing though. Hawks could have a shot.
:manny:
The issue is this off season. Pay him or trade him. I wouldn’t go above 45M a year though. If he doesn’t like it he can kick rocks and get traded to a shyt organization that will pay him. No contender will give him the max.

Yeah it will be interesting to see the contract he gets this summer and if AD gets an extension. Both of them will set the tone for how teams value injury prone stars with this 2nd apron CBA.

What do you think he is worth? Would the pelicans give him the max? Wizards? Jazz? Bulls?
:lupe:
Honestly, if the Clips give the Hawks Harden for Trae, who would say no? Clips have a “star” to build for the future. Harden might be able to push the Hawks to the finals this season. If it doesn’t work out, they can trade Harden in the off season so he can get paid.

Clips are playing for shyt right now. They need to pivot. They are saving their cap space for whatever reason.

Trae’s value is situational. He’s still very valuable as a floor raiser for a team like the Kings or the Bucks if they trade Giannis. But his defensive liability reduces his value for true contenders. Honestly the most logical trade might be swapping AD for Trae. It’s probably the best both teams can do.

Would you do LaVine and Schroder for Trae and kennard?
:ld:
LaVine gives you shooting and Dennis gives you a show runner that can defend. Trae gets a new home and a new contract. Kennard is just a filler that can shoot. Expiring contract.

Lol if I were the Kings yeah I would do that trade. Probably not if I’m the Hawks. Lavine is too one dimensional.

That's one of my biggest headscratchers with Trae. He loves taking these 30 foot threes like he's Steph but he's just not good at making them.... don't any of his coaches have the nuts to tell him to cut that shyt out?

I don't think Lavine's a bad player but man... has there ever been a less impactful guy on the court? He scores and is efficient but his teams are always fukking trash

That’s the problem all he can do is score. He doesn’t play defense and lacks impactful playmaking. He’s better suited as a 6th man.

Being really injury prone doesn't help either. I think if he accepts the role of a sixth man and leads the subs unit for a team he'd have a nice end of his career. Not sure if he would humble himself enough to go that route
