we all see the hawks thread where there's a "wtf is wrong with this midget" after every season ends :laff: like if JJ turns into the 20/10 guy he was definitely becoming last year before the injuries - why even bother with another year of building around Trae?

if trae wants his money he's gotta have the hawks as top 4 in an injured east this year while also beating the flowchart pg allegations for an all-nba season too

if he ain't that guy then his value is only gonna be worse going forward to the point where you're taking BS back to get off his contract

Pretty much everybody on the roster needs somebody like Trae to do their thing. KP can get it on his own if he needs to.

I think Zacc will be the surprise player who shows he doesn’t need to be set up to score.

I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think JJ has another level to the point of consistently creating his own buckets. He’s money on fast breaks, cuts, and being left alone on the wings.

I think we have a way higher ceiling this year, barring injuries. I think the Hawks will be good enough to compete for real after next offseason.

giving trae credit for JJ's development is... crazy. they don't even approach the game the same way. its like giving KAT props for Ant's growth

may as well say trae is why dyson plays so hard on defense
Trae is a pg fam. If JJ breaks out next year, there’s no way that Trae won’t have a huge hand in it.

None of this is guaranteed tho. Regression and injuries happen.
:hubie:
Nothing is guaranteed at all. But no plans ever are. But you still gotta sell the vision and the dream. Look at the Celtics. No one thought Tatum would be hurt. Or Hali. But you still plan. Right now, the Hawks clearly plan for Trae long term imo

passing the guy the ball is not the same thing as development at all :dead:
So if Jalen scores 24 next year and half of those points are assisted by Trae, Trae won’t have a large hand in his breakout season?

If Trae trusts Jalen more and puts the ball in his hand more down the stretch, while playing more offball, that won’t be Trae having a large hand in his breakout season?

What are we doing here :francis:?
With how the hawks have played basketball the last 7 years, unless Trae gets hurt (knocks on wood), he will play a huge part in Jalen’s breakout season. Like he has in his career so far. Go look up Jalen’s assisted vs unassisted numbers.

Trae young is “nowhere near the passer” Hali is? Are you trolling?
Hali is clearly a better passer than Trae imo. His decision making alone>>

But again that’s not to say Trae is bad because he’s also great at passing. Good we can agree on Trae being a bad shooter & the history of small guards:ehh:

This season will probably be the litmus test

On paper it’s the best squad the Hawks have had since the Budenholzer teams. If they’re still a play-in team/1st round exit, they probably move on

ATL…overly
Trae Young is eligible for a contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks this offseason, which is something executives across the NBA are paying attention to ahead of his potential free agency in 2026. Young played a key role in the Hawks' offseason and also was at Vegas Summer League. Young can sign for up to $222 million over four seasons.

"Executives in Las Vegas are closely watching and monitoring the future and status of Atlanta's Trae Young," said Shams Charania on Friday's episode of NBA Today. "He has two years left on his deal this upcoming season, but he has a player option in 2026. He can be a free agent next summer. It's going to be a much more flush market in free agency coming u

And listen, this is an Atlanta Hawks team that has made a ton of moves this offseason. Got Kristaps Porzingis. They can go several different directions with this team. They have a rising young team. They have guys like Jalen Johnson, Zachary Risacher. But the Hawks want to see how this team looks. Both Trae Young and Kristaps Porzingis are extension eligible.

"But Trae Young, by all accounts, I'm told, is locked in. He's excited about this team. He really believes this team is as close to that team several years ago they made it to the conference finals in the East. He's excited, but I do know Trae Young a little bit, and I know once he gets into the season, he wants to focus on that season. So, if there is no extension, we're into the regular season, I would not be surprised if he just waits until the 2026 summer before any decisions on his future."

As a Hawks fan and someone who closely follows the team it feels like a non story locally.

The team has made executive changes: New GM Onsi Saleh, who is in lock step with Trae

The team has been retooled to more closely resemble the one that made the surprise ECF run in 2021

Arguably the most talented roster he’s played with + draft assets. Hawks have built a team with shooting, defense and length with versatile bigs. Hes got real help now

Trae has been at SL, has been at the introductory press conferences for the rookies + helped recruit NAW & Luke Kennard here

This is as locked in as Trae has been with the franchise & team as I can remember…it feels like the media is making shyt up for a storyline over the summer IMO :manny:

I guess your dumbass forgot about the ECF run. Put a decent team around him & he’s impactful
Look at you all emotional lol

Similar to that Kings team playing well it was a fluke & they had a lot of luck happen. Trae can’t be your best player on a title team & you know this. Most of y’all were ready to trade that man when the reports came out a year or two ago. Now y’all back to stanning :pachaha:
