I so tired of this shyt

Even when Black people make it shyt comes off like nikka Trauma porn

I watched American Skin for the 1st time last night

shyt had me soooo disappointed

:scust:
But people clown “nikka nerds” if they like speculative fiction and shyt like high fantasy.

This is part of the reason why Black Panther was such a huge deal. We wanna dream in color.

I won’t be happy until I see a black high fantasy epic with all black heroes and heroines.

What were the mythical creatures in ancient African folklore?

What are the legends of the continent? Let’s make up some fantasy worlds and explore black characters with powers in high fantasy societies.

This actually doesn’t look bad and is an interesting concept (Groundhog Day with a twist). However the problem is that all this black trauma shyt is played as popcorn entertainment and the images of suffering almost seem like they’re deliberately framed to look as faux artistic as possible.

When Moonlight came out I was excited because it performed well and won lots of awards, and I figured it would impact figure films. At its core it’s just a drama/character piece with black people in great roles. Yet it seems like the only influence it’s had is showing hack directors how to properly light dark skinned characters on camera. The cinematography was aped but the good roles and thought provoking plot was thrown in the trash.

Instead we get shyt like Lovecraft Country, which is basically “let’s take sci fi and add black trauma.” Hell while I like the trailer in the OP it’s the same: let’s take Groundhog Day but add black trauma. No one is interested in “let’s make a film about black people living life” or some regular drama with black people. Everything has to be...this. It’s like this black JJ Abrams shyt where you can’t create anything truly new, you have to ape other shyt and then add your signature tropes to it.
Lovecraft country was amazing :yeshrug:

I saw this bs the other day man :francis:, why does this keep happening to us? This could've easily been a sci-fi thriller/mystery instead it's about a nikka getting killed by the police 87646228291 million times. This could've VERY EASILY not been about this shyt, in a world post Black Panther and Black Lightning this is what you do?

:francis: I wish our people would collectively turn down any joints that have to do with our trauma or pain as the entire crux of the movie. I'm not gonna degrade or deride, but that lane has become so oversaturated and done to death to the point of feeling like it's exploitation. Give us a Sci-Fi adventure with all black leads that lets our minds wander. Give us another one of our Superheroes like Static, Storm, John Stewart, etc. on the big screen. Give us a Gods of Africa movie with Gods/Goddesses like Oya, Ogoun and Shango.

But please no more trauma porn.
