They do Yap-yap-yap like Chun-li tho. I can see that, Early!
not shytting on the entire series. just the back half of cold steel and this new run specifically...

they rest on 'tell not show' - and that shyt was okay when you had better writing constrained to the PSP. they'll now jam in some of the most USELESS over-narrated drivel, with fanservice sprinkled throughout, into the same storytelling that provided the immersion to begin with. they've ruined their own sauce

trails was kinda like a cooking show at first. which will always have its audience - but now that they think they have a different audience for whatever reason, they want you to watch them go shopping too. they think they can make you watch them drive, go through a try on haul, make small talk with every cashier in the shopping center, and also wash dishes afterwards.

its not 2010 anymore. there's different *and better* ways to present a narrative. and its hard to ignore feeling straight up disrespecting with your time

I thought the ongoing "epic", oft MCU compared saga of a story was most the lauded over thing, over all things else in these games by ya'll Dweeabos.
You'd have to be delusional to not recognize the flaws just because you like something. This series was clearly not fully mapped out and it's been running in excess because they didn't sit down and say it will be X amount of games and work back from that.

It's absurd they couldn't tell a complete story inside of 13 games and 22 years.

The MCU has some of the same issues. It's been going on for too long and it needs to reach some sort of conclusion. At least this will likely reach one. The MCU will continue until it is unprofitable to make the movies and never get a proper end.

I've literally stopped giving a fukk about the story i just enjoy playing through the games. :yeshrug:
a lot of people would like to play the game. they're just forced through hours of yapping and checklist dialogue between dungeons

its even worse because you miss out on all kinds of gear and magic for missing shyt - so you can't just go point A to point B happily ignoring stuff

I got 20 hours into Cold Steel and quit
I got mad far into Trails in the sky on the VIta and stopped...

i enjoyed em both times, but other games pulled me out. I'm going to try and beat 1st Chapter this year at some point

Only reason this game got popular was covid. The average gamer ain't got time to play 9 games, with an average of 70hrs each..with long monologues. Which includes 40 percent being voiceless...I still love it but for newer folks it's a lot, specially if u a grown man with other shyt to do IRL

Rean's VA may be involved in some questionable decisions in his personal life but he plays the hell out of the character. You can just hear the care he puts into the role.

Just got to the intermission and holy shyt at the end of Kevin's route 1. We just might be getting to the meet and potatoes of this entire series.

I’m guessing I’m almost 2/3rds into this game and this is an average Trails game for the most part.

If you like Trails games you’ll be ok with this one. There is some really heavy plot element recycling from concepts already used in the series especially the Van route content.

At the end of every character section you get maybe a tiny bit of plot but it’s formulaic Trails. People constantly talking around stuff and stuff happening with little to no context. The plot teases you but you can spend all day listening to Van wax on about a car or a sugar treat and his mob of assistants rob him over it.

The basic structure of everything has been run around town to the red exclamation points and see groups of 3-4 previous characters sitting at a table talking. That’s stalled out by the Garten, 4SPGs, and a wanted monster.

This is however as direct as they’ve gotten about the truth of the world since the series began. I expect before the end of the game they’ll outright reveal what is going on at the very least. Probably nothing on Oroburos though.

In the middle of cold steel III. Like mentioned, all the talking is brutal. It took me 2 years to beat part II. Honestly, I don‘t even know why I’m playing these games. When the game allows you to play, it‘s enjoyable.

Probably part of the reason they don't get full voice acting. They don't want to pay for the time for people to voice all these lines.

This newest game reminds me of Final Fantasy XVI level pacing. You'll get a hype moment briefly and the game slams the brakes on everything again and back to side quest to find somebody's pet or taco ingredient ideas.

Not gonna lie on most of these sidequests I just glaze over and listen to YouTube videos while I play. Especially on the Garten.
