OP's opinion has some merit but "travelling is officially dead" is way over the top and completely wrong.
However - especially over the last 20 years travelling isn't as adventurous as it used to be. And for some countries that have become dependant on tourst $$$ - detrimental to the local community.
Now the world's smaller and everyone has written reviews on everything travelling has taken another turn. I guess previously - travelling meant you were adventurous, cultured it meant you were open. Now - you can be a culture-less hack - tick a bunch of boxes from Tripadvisor and that's it.
But there's no alternative. When I travel - I try to dodge the crowds, dodge some of the more touristy spots and just chill and discover things myself.

I dont have a job and im getting ready to book a couple flights. With gas prices falling every week, tickets are also plummeting. I am heading to Trinidad in January for a week. But im trying to see if I can sneak a trip to Japan or anywhere in Asia.
I went to Thailand this year and I believe tourism has done some very bad things to their country.
Rich people got treated well wherever you go. I'm a black UK cat and I've been treated well in every country i've visited. Sometimes people try to bump me for mulah but all in all - I have no complaints with the treatment.

Tourism, is for the most part a terrible thing. But whats the alternative? The problem I have with some tourists is their unwillingness to experience the culture. For someone to leave a place to go to a place that simulates the place you just left is stupid. There are far too many people who feel its okay to ruin people's habitat.
