It's funny tho. Cuz when people hear artist like ASAP ands Kreyshawn getting Million Dollar deals they really think they pocketing a Mil :mjlol:

well thats people that are fans that are not educated about the industry...they just see a post on hnhh or 2dopeboyz with the headline "blank artist signs to epic records for 2.5 Million Dollars"
When really they got a 60k advance for an album that will never come out.

You dont get 2 million..he prob got a 60-80k advance off that. That 2million is to pay for features, beats, studio time, and radio spins for the album. In return they take all ya sales and take 15% of ya tour money, 15% of ya merch, 100% of ya album sales and so on and so on hence where they got the term 360 deal from

it dont matter to def jam they recouped that 80k advance just off the all gold everything single. That went gold (no pun intended) thats around 350k after itunes takes their cut(no samples on that record either) all the show money, dont be safe ep sales, and merch money they got was just a bonus :ld:
So are you speaking on a joint venture or 360 deal?

Are these specific deal points you read in a interview or he mentioned these percentages himself?

Just saying..never heard of Trinidad James signing a 360 deal.

Regardless of sales, Trinidad CAN survive off shows and a indie hustle....well he could have...

There's a shyt load of rappers who built their buzz off Youtube though

Mac Miller, Chance the Rapper,

ummmm Soulja Boy :scusthov::scusthov: he got his fame through Myspace

Asap Rocky, Gambino, Odd Future, Tinashe(an R&B singer but got her come up was on Youtube)

:scusthov::scusthov:Lil B :bryan:
Kid Ink

shyt Drake was Youtube grinding at one point

Out of all of this i only consider Mac Miller the true youtube success..and i guess Soulja Boy but that was mostly myspace

Gambino does tv and comedy so his chances are significantly increased to succeed in music

Lil B doesn't exist outside of internet :pacspit::pacspit:

Kid Ink is just now getting his footing, with that Chris Brown joint..

I think Kreyshawn could've possibly went somewhere if you she would've waited to start showing off the White Girl Mob...

never try to put everyone on when your debuting. V Nasty fukked up any potential Krey could've had...and now...Lil Debbie the one who didn't even wanna rap, is the most relevant :mjlol:

It hurts to watch them do this to our brehs man. Nowadays it's nearly impossible to come up in the game without immense talent, a crew, and joint ventures/labelmates.

If Trinidad couldn't make it, it looks really bleak for all these future rappers who got their rise up off internet fame.
Thing is. Trinidad was just hype. He wasn't really a artist who wanted to grow with his craft.

Nicca was a manager at the underground in ATL, right person heard his music, gave him a deal.

Its his own fault he couldn't parlay that success...

I'll admit, I was rooting for this guy...that tweet was depressing really. The industry just uses people and throws them out.

Then again, Def Jam is and has been struggling for years...they have no money to waste on non-priority artists and the list of them is getting very few. I'd be surprised if that label is here at the end of the decade.
