There hasn't been a defensive anchor that lead his team to a top record in the league in a long time, that's why you don't see many defensive players in MVP voting. Also you're not going to win 50+ games by just playing good D and nothing else in today's NBA. Somebody gotta put the ball in the basket

Yeah I know that but when you look at it only the offensive stars get love it's just strange to me same in football it seems like the QB gets all the shine but that's just me

It's easier to look at offensive numbers than defensive. You can look at points and say "this guy is contributing this much to winning. Not easy to do with defense.

Well there's a "defensive" player of the year award, but no offensive player of the year award.
Most players get called great or bad defenders based on reputation rather than their actual play. You can't fake being great scorer though.

Nash wasn't a high volume scorer so they also care about assists, and Dwight Howard not winning the MVP in 2011 should answer that question for you.
