The team who scores most, usually wins

Scoring is very important

theres no more important factor in sports......

...than scoring :francis:

Are both of you unaware that keeping the other team from scoring is worth exactly as much as scoring yourself? :dahell:

You have to outscore the other team. Half of that happens on your end and half of it happens on their end. Half offense, half defense.

Now, it is true that a great scorer can be given the ball every time, while a great individual defender might only stop one guy. So I only put defense up there with offense if the player is actually anchoring the entire team's defense (meaning he is having a significant effect beyond only the guy he is guarding) or if he is so versatile that he can be switched onto whoever the best/hottest player is on the other team.

When Garnett and Duncan were winning they were elite defenders and probably not among the top 5 in scoring. I guess you gotta have that balance in order to get votes. Somebody like Ben probably could have gotten an MVP if he could have averaged 15-18 a game.

When you younger? Yeah.

As you get older you understand the game and realize scoring isn't everything.

For example I used to think Iverson was the coldest ever because he could drop 40 no problem.

Now that I understand the game,Iverson still a legend and ONE of the best, but his stock is lower than what I thought it was.

I like to see defensive effort from players on the court ala LeBron's block on Iggy in Game 7 but that does not mean I want to see a 84-81 game either. I want to see great defense but even better offense. A good 105-102 game could have moments of hot shooting/scoring and great defense being played.

To answer the OP I care about more than just scoring but realize that you do have to score to win and entertain.

Average nba fan doesn't know enough about basketball to understand anything other than the ball going through the hoop

How you think GS and Curry got so popular so fast?

Even as a kid I never liked Iverson all that much.

One thing that I agree with Gil Scott-Heroin about is that its ridiculous to give him credit just cuz he was short, that's where a lot of the hype seems to come from.

Kobe, Wade, T-Mac (yeah I fukking said it )>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Iverson

All 3 of them are better than Iverson, that's true.

But nah he was short and damn near averaged 30 for his entire career.

He deserves all the hype and credit that's given to him.

Allen Iverson is the Mike Vick of the NBA (and I was a Vick stan as a kid), take that however you want it.

Anyone can score a lot of points with volume. Which is why PPG is a crappy stat
