I never actually followed this cat in the past, but I overheard a few of his singles like:

and my personal favorite, New York City.

And I'm feeling son. As far as NYC yea we got French Montana, but that's just swag music.

The above song rings true to NYC to the core. He's not your joey badass lyrically, he's not the second coming of the 50 Cent thug rap.
But his appeal to me is he's a regular NY nikka. Reminds of a cool nikka from the neighborhood.

Repping Troy Ave Crown Heights, he's a fresh air of that organic sound. Not too polished but not too grit.

I checked his album and his mixtapes, Bricks in my Backpack

IMO it's not the best, and I sense a lot of biting/"inspiration" from the Max B style and Camron/Mase

But breh cool tho:ehh:

Discuss.

Troy ave will be gone in a year. He is alienating himself with his attitude towards modern ny hiphop. No one wants to hear that 50 cent style of rap anymore and the ones who do won't actually buy his shyt.
Weirdo rap taking over :blessed:

more swag less violence :blessed:
high fashion:blessed:
fukk black on black crime :blessed:

But he's not making that thug rap.

There's a lot of hipster rap out now then on the other hand you got the trap rap like Montana with coke boys.

He's playing that line in the middle and keeping it street rap.

I personally can't get with that Kendrick Lamar's, asap is cool but the Houston influence gets old. I grew up off a different breed of rap:yeshrug:

Breh is a fresh air that got a bop in the step unlike joey who gets boring after a while.

I can't enjoy his music, I guess I'm one of the weirdos he's always talking about.

he comes off as a prick and I've seen a few interviews of his where he's used a few analogies that left me :ohlawd:

Seems like there's no one around him with worthwhile reasoning skills to help him understand how ignorant he is at times.

:manny:

That's not a problem he got rappers all over even old heads standing by him.
His reviews from publication to publication including pitchfork, MTV, complex, XXl, and vibe are all stellar.

And hood rap don't work no more?

Those MC's you just named have no problem rapping on southern beats that bang in clubs. Troy ave will never be on that level because he wants to attempt to bring back that early 2000's sound. The dude hasn't even went gold yet but he feels he can speak on Kendrick? HA!. Just another bitter new yorker.
