Lets be real here, a lot of these underground rappers tried to go mainstream and it didnt work. Another thing with yall and 90s rappers is that yall claim they underground but they actually were mainstream its just the direction of Hip Hop changed so much that people wanna rewrite history.

"Ms fat booty" mainstream, "Simon says" mainstream, "Get by" mainstream, etc... sales dont determine if someones mainstream or not. It also depends on how marketable they are. A lot of these are underground because they have no choice, not because they want to.

Breh, stop it....Immortal Technique tried to get on, and couldn't....and then focused his music to something a niche would appreciate.

you don't remember this?

And how many 106 & Park battlers are "on" today? That was just Immortal realizing the mainstream wasn't ready for him

a lot of rappers lack that "it" factor too..personality & charisma helps way more then it hurts..

And i believe true greatness cant be regulated to just a few people

I almost said "yes", because:

"Underground" and "discovered" are not static words and their definition changes
depending on someones' point.

But I said "no" because:

As other people have said some rappers want to stay "underground".
The way that they do that is by trying to keep their subject matter "non-mainstream".

the good underground cats are like that because informative hip hop is dead......they are over lyrical and a lot of people cant catch on to that shyt....they are not making party music.....

also hip hop is considered as a skilled job....so selling albums don't mean shyt....the opposite of pop music.

em,vanilla ice, mc hammer, jay,50,outkast......are all POP RAPPERS(their best selling albums are hip-pop/rap albums). that's how they sold so much.

pac and big are the only hip hop mcs I respect with big sales......because they kept it real/true to hop hop/gangsta/mafiosa rap and still sold...impressive.:blessed: :banderas: :ohlawd: :salute:

Some of you cats....Jesus Christ....

It's not A or B. It's not "they either want to get on, and haven't yet, or they can't because they suck". You're acting like labels ain't been raping artists since the 60's. Not everyone wants to "get on" because it's 2014 and you don't need major label or mainstream support to eat off rap. So yes, in some cases it's preferable to stay underground. Hell, in most cases nowadays it's preferable. Someone like Chief Keef signed to Interscope, and sold 50,000 first week, which is what he would've sold independently. The difference is Interscope wouldn't have been in his pockets the whole time.

Stop treating these labels like they're special....stop treating mainstream success like it's the most important thing in the world. Viacom/Clear Channel really did a number on you guys.

Fred.
I think you hit the mark right here breh

Since we're on the topic..

Why y'all think dudes like Killah Priest, Charles Hamilton, etc get no buzz whatsoever? Alot of y'all say blowin in the rap game depends on if people can relate to your music or not but Charles raps about that everyday shyt all the time...

What makes you disagree though? Elaborate so I can understand. What makes the song not that ill?

People like yourself were talking this song up saying how it was one of the best stories
and whatnot. I heard it, and I don't agree. The story was shocking, that's it.
There are hella story raps that are better than it.
