If you were a good team, yes.

If you were a bad team, you should strive to become a better team than you were before.

You think Louisiana Tech, Buffalo, Vanderbilt, Rice and schools like that are thinking BCS Championship for next football season? Their goal is to become better and having a foundation of consistency to build on to eventually get to that point.

They should be. Alabama went from 7-5 to 12-0 in Saban second year, Ohio st just went from 6-7 to 12-0. Boise wins 11 games yearly, TCU as well. I understand it takes time to build a program tho, so i get what you're saying

That's false hope. They won their 3 titles in the 90s and struggled since. Jerry Jones might believe it but in reality nobody expected them to win anything in years

Cowboys Nation Expects Championships, Aint No False Hope There

lots of dumb ass posters in here

in professional sports as a player and coach the only goal is to win championships... idk wtf everyone else thinks

There are a growing number of players who care more about a paycheck than winning a title. For example Mario Williams signing to Buffalo, if a ring was his main priority he wouldn't have signed there.

For the record, there is nothing wrong with that. Get your money while you can

NO shyt.. that's not the question being posed here though. The question is about what professional sports and athletes "should" be about.

I think we all are on different subject here. Ya'll are acting like everyone teams ceiling every year is the same or potential to win a championship is the same. Because it's not.

SS is using all the teams and people in his example who have or have some what of a lookers chance of winning a title. He is not using teams with the worse players in the league, acting like they aren't trying. I've seen many people who have tried harder then champions and still never beat them.

That's what is messed up in our society. Some people and teams need to stay in their lane. That's why society is so depressed and do drugs and shyt because they can't grasp that they are just average and no matter how much they try they can never be the best.

In every "profession" sports or regular society, there are tiers. you can try as hard as you want. being a bum squad at being the best and never make it there. You expect 31 other teams to go home and cry after the season and not be happy they reached "THEIR" potential which might be a ECF exit.

It is false hope. You have to be a contender to say championship or bust

How can you just say a team isnt a contender, pretty sure people said the same thing about the Giants(07/11) & The Ravens this past season.

true.....

why are you playing/coaching a team if your not trying to win a championship

Everyone is trying to win a championship.

I don't think anyone steps on the field not trying to do that.

But in reality sports are a day-by-day thing. And you have to win that day to get to play for that championship.

Completely different scenario.

Cheating in college sports is too easy which allows teams like that to be built.

How are they cheating tho, and if they are why is nobody cheating like them?

That's easy to say that when you looking back in hindsight. When the Giants went 8-8 and squeaked in the playoffs, nobody was thinking they were a contender

EXACTLY my point. You Cant Write A Team Off By Just Saying "They Aren't Contenders"

Exactly. For example, look at Bron's career. At first, he was on some pretty awful teams. The goal was first to get to a level where the Cavs could start making the playoffs regularly, then competing for championships regularly. Winning titles should be the end goal, but for some squads, it obviously has to be a process and won't be done in one year.
