I swear Togashi capitalized big time when Shonen Jump was in their dark ages point in the late 90s after the Golden trio(Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragonball, Slam Dunk) ended serialization one after the other & they were in dire need of hit series. I heard Jump almost was about to go bankrupt during that era and the deal Togashi made back then is the reason why HxH can take very long hiatuses without the fear of jump dropping the series.

Being a lazy bum by nature, I was absurdly happy when I managed to safely finish up Dragon Ball’s serialization, and finally be released from Deadline Hell. The TV anime people wanted to continue for just a little bit more, but I [just couldn’t do] any more than that… And so, I left the Dragon Ball anime completely up to the anime staff, story and all. That was Dragon Ball GT.

In car lingo, GT means “Gran Turismo”: a fast, high-powered car, in other words. But in this case, I had GT mean “Grand Touring”, a great journey, since the scenario was that they’d be running around the universe.

For GT, all I did was just come up with the title, design the initial main cast and some of the machines, and also do a few images. However, I was able to rest easy handing things over to the excellent staff, who had continued on Dragon Ball for all this time. In particular, the animator Nakatsuru-kun is amazingly skilled, and mastered the peculiarities of my drawings in no time at all, to the point where there were even times when I couldn’t tell whether I had drawn a certain character design, or if he had. For instance, one of Nakatsuru-kun’s designs was “Super Saiyan 4″, which appears in GT, and the picture above is a portrait that I drew looking off it. Did I draw it well?

Dragon Ball GT is a grand side-story of the original Dragon Ball, and it’ll make me happy for us to watch and enjoy it together.

I just looked it up and most of the designs have brown or white hair , also super saiyan 4 was based off some Japanese performers who wear wigs according to the guy who “created it”, either way it's naive to think Toriyama had no input when you can clearly see the historical elements in the original anime and manga, hes just humble

He plays that naive humble guy schtick because thats what most intelligent brothers do when they’re in public, he hit the jackpot and has the biggest 2D series in the world that appeals to every single race and culture in the world, and its obvious why if you watch it with a higher level of thinking because he slips in references, homages, designs and subliminal truths about all of them constantly

In the recent movie Broly the just had Goku and Vegeta fighting a primal Saiyan who cant read, write or even speak coherently in the caucus mountains is that just another coincidence? And of course he was giving gold and purple Freezer the hands, what continent you know that has gold and purple tied to it for royalty? Lol but im sure that another coincidence? Right? Piccolo homeland is and design is CLEARLY inspired by the moors and other African tribes

i wouldnt rush trying to catch up to the series.Take your time. Despite what you will hear by fans saying the creator saying "it will end in 5 years" hes always wrong on when he will finish things. So it will be here for a while

he said back when the series had around 200/300 chapters that we were "half way done" and here we are at 1000 chapters. since the 2nd half of the beginning of the series(the 1st half by itself is 597 chapters, which is longer than all of Dragonball) we gone 400 + chapters and have yet to deal with a Yonkou(a Big boss in the series).

Now that doesnt mean its slowpaced as a series, but theres so much that is being tackled in this series that it takes a while to get to deal with the HUGE HUGE key points yet. but other things in the series are addressed and resolved so its not like nothing happens or slowpaced. Just that theres alot of shyt.

the series still has 6-8 years left easily given the content its got to cover.
