I Love west coast hip hop and I say the west (and other regions) were necessary to make hip hop as great as it became but some nikkaz are flat out delusional

The nikka who invented the W hand sign and popularized it was born and raised in NYC

It's crazy how nikkaz still cite 2Pac as a west coast rapper when he didn't even get on that Westside till I die shyt till late 95/early 96 and died working on a movement to kill rumors of him denouncing his east coast roots

Most Pac best friends outside of death row were from NY and NJ

The so called "east coast vs west coast beef" was between 2 nikkas from NY

When Pac passed, Death Row fell off

When death row fell off, the west coast pretty much disappeared from hip hop relevance for damn near a decade till a NY nikka put Game on

NWA got controversy but they did not help popularize hip hop, most nikkaz didnt know who the NWA members were besides Cube Easy and Dre

It's nikkaz still till this day cant cite the 5 NWA members off the top of their heads but know all 9 members of Wu

Pac did not invent the "W" hand sign... I'm pretty sure Cube (who got it from Kam) was throwing it in the Maad Circle "West Up" video before Pac even dropped All Eyez On Me..

MC New York also said

Fukk New York
Does everybody hear me

Being frustrated with your city or feeling betrayed by it will make you say fukk it, that dont change where you from tho

2Pac also said the exact phrase "I'm from New York"

As a matter of fact here's an exact quote from "Thug Style":

I guess these muthafukkas tryin' to take me out the business right
I guess I ain't East Coast enough for my nikkas back in New York
and I ain't West Coast for these nikkas on the West huh?
fukk e'rybody

I aint see Cube start throwing that shyt up till West Side connection

That's why Pac aint fukk with Cube like that, according to Pac himself

Even if Pac didn't invent it, he's definitely the one who had most people throwing that shyt up

He came out with Digital Underground who was based out west

Shock G is actually from Queens tho

The logic isn't there regardless, if a nikka born and raised in NY did an album tomorrow featuring nothing but Cali nikkaz, he automatically becomes from Cali?

PAC wasn't known in NY or in Baltimore. It would be a different story if 2pac got rich and left to live in Cali to portray the East but that wasn't the case. He lived in Marin City from the bottom and developed his style there and became the rapper that we know him for there. Just because he wasn't born there means he couldn't rep it?

Again.. go watch the "West Up" video with WC, Cube, Mack 10. Those guys are on that "westside" shyt and throwing sublimals at east coast rappers all throughout the song..

"The Sun Rises in the East, but it sets in the West"-Ice Cube

They also had that song 'Westside Slaughterhouse" on Mack 10's album... that also came out before All Eyez On Me..

The West introduced more vulgarity to the game and gang banging. Didn't popularize much but that.

selling millions in the 80's and the early 90's is not a real indication of popularity. you could have recorded people farting back then and it would have went platinum. main stream exposure is more important. im not gonna say it was one way or the other, but i can say over here on the west no one gave 2 squirts of piss about new york rap until biggie rapped on songs that sounded like the west.
