Nah they had a great system in place to maximize their talents.

I hear you though, I thought the same way of the 2013 and 2014 Spurs. Still feel that way today sometimes. All those role players and somehow they kept competitive and more. This thread should've been about the Spurs not the Warriors.

NAH EVERYTHING JUST LINED UP PERFECT FOR THEM.

THEY ONLY HAD ONE SUPERSTAR
BUT THEY WERE A VERY DEEP TEAM.

2015
KD GOT HURT AND OKC MISSED THE PLAYOFFS....
THE CLIPS UPSET THE SPURS
THEN CHOKED AGAINST HOUSTON
SO WITH THE SPURS OUT OF THE WAY
WHO WAS GONNA STOP THEM IN THE WEST?

ADD THE FACT THAT KYRIE
AND LOVE WERE OUT FOR THE FINALS...

2016 KD IS BACK
AND OKC CHOKES A 3-1 LEAD
ONLY FOR GS TO DO THE SAME THING
THE FOLLOWING ROUND.

OKC WAS THE ONLY LEGIT TEAM OUT WEST
THAT GS FACED DURING THAT 2 YEAR RUN.

THEY DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO...
THEY WON A TITLE WHEN DUDES WERE HURT
THEN LOST THE NEXT SEASON.

I do think their success was greater than their talent before KD. It was just a perfect match of talent and system coming together. For a team to win 73 games I would expect a team to have at least two all time level greats. While Klay and Draymond are cool they are not all-time top 50 players. So the fact that this team won more than pairings of Magic/Kareem, Shaq/Kobe, Wade/Lebron or other great pairings is overachieving IMO. It was just a case of the sum of the parts being greater.

this would make more sense if they didnt go 73-9 in regular season in 2015/2016 season. did 'things align perfectly' for them too in regular season ?

Klay and Dray arent Superstars.

They arent on Curry,KD,Bron,Harden,Kyrie, etc level. Especially Dray. fukk you smoking.:gucci:
I put klay and Kyrie at a similar level considering what they bring to the table is different but both significant.

Luck and injuries resulted in their first ring, then everyone bought into the hype, including NBA officials. If Durant doesnt join them I think they're one and done, though.

also, not sure how you overachieve with a 2-time MVP on your team. distinctly remember a convo on another board years ago when the question was asked "could steph lead the league in scoring" and a lot of us said yes, but this was back in 12-13. about 3 years later he avg 30ppg. those are league leading numbers whether he got the scoring title or not. the point is, a lot of people knew that if Steph could get healthy he was going to be a top player and if the Warriors as a whole got healthy, they would be a contender. Everyone knew they did well when they drafted Barnes and Green
Nope this is an attempt at revisionist history. Steph wasn't on anyone's radar as a potentially great player in 2012. You can go back and search forums, yt video, reddit threads from 5 years ago predicting who will be top players in 17/18. Almost no Curry mentions whatsoever. Draymond wasnt expected to be anything, his pre-draft comparison was Jared Dudley and he was too slow to play defense.

Stop it. They went from 46 and 51 wins, getting bumped in the first or second round to 67 wins and a title. :stopitslime:
is that not YoY improvement? what young team doesn't get bumped in the playoffs prior to breaking through? are you purposely being obtuse? you'd rather overlook a pattern that shows annual improvement for an "overachievement" narrative that isn't logically sound? :camby:

The Clippers had more playoff success than Golden State. Teams generally don't go from first round exit to a championship. OKC with their Big 3 went from first round, to conference finals to losing in the Finals. GS just bypassed everything.

Kyrie was better than everyone on GS besides Curry. Cleveland had a great duo; OKC had a great duo. GS had that singular talent in Curry, but not a second fiddle of a superstar caliber like other teams.

Absolutely nobody had them breaking the wins record or Curry winning one MVP let alone two straight. He'd made a single All-NBA team (second team) up until that point.
