cavs probably smoke them quite easily last year if not for durant because the cavs figured them out in the previous finals. It's alot easier to trap/double curry when he has to give it up to dryamonf and klay than it is when you have to stay on durant.

You had a superstar, a legit 2nd option all-star and a defensive all-star. That usually wins a title.

The year they took the Spurs to six really sold me on them looking back nobody viewed them as contenders outwest I was watching some old basketball videos for 2015 the contenders were the defending champion Spurs, OKC,Clippers, Grizzlies,Rockets, and the team with Bron

I mean they probably wouldn’t have won another ring if it wasn’t for Durant, but at the end of the day they’re one of very few teams to have two top five players in their prime on the same team.

What squad was even comparable to their depth before KD

They only were close to teams who had incredible superstar performances

The thunder, the cavs, the clippers

I think we're just now getting to a point, with the signings of KD and boogie, where the accumulation of talent approaches their actual and perceived on court dominance...

Pre-kd the warriors were one superstar (curry), one fringe all-star (klay... And before people start taking that as a knock, think about all the good guards in the west alone and consider how guys like dame were getting snubbed cause Klay made it), a great defensive player that wouldn't be considered all-star level in many other situations (dray) and role players...in a vacuum of evaluating players on a individual level, they weren't leaps and bounds above the rest of the league at all... certainly not to an extent where you look at them and go "oh man that team is so stacked... they're gonna break the all time wins record"...

the reason why they were so good is because Steph basically broke the concept of modern NBA defense... schematically they were way in front of the rest of the league, not talent wise... similar to how the post-prime Duncan, pre-prime Kawhi spurs were when they went on their title run...now the individual players have had their statuses retroactively lifted because of team success, but let's not get the chicken and the egg confused...

Now things changed when KD got there...then they had two legitimate superstar franchise players, and they morphed into what the Heatles were supposed to be

all of those are off kilter by quite a bit. the 8th or 9th best guy on GS was Barbosa, who was giving pretty great performances for a minute. OKC's bench was complete garbage im not even gonna comment on that and I think Clippers statistically had one of the worst if not the worst bench in 2015 (I know for a fact 2014-2015, but prob 2015-16 too). I might give you Cleveland but you do have to look at that with the caveat that Delly, Shump and Mozgov all took a step back from 2015. Plus 80 year old Mo Will was getting key minutes. But all the same Ill give you Cleveland, who had to blow out all their cap just to build a competing squad

GS was built at a far higher level from top to bottom than 99% of the league, and if they didnt sign KD and let Harrison walk, they would've had the cap to replace guys like Barb and David Lee with even better talent than scrum like McGee and Nick Young (the latter being a steal for the contract they gave him, or was supposed to anyway). Maybe convince people like Otto Porter or Hassan to take mid tier deals.

A 34 year old barbosa averaging like 5 points a game on his way out the league being the 3rd best guy off the bench on the team with the most wins in NBA history sounds more like a point for my argument to me lol... He's not a difference maker, literally just a name

You KD stans love to overstate his importance on this team. GS is still da best team in da league strictly cause of Steph's presence on the floor. KD wouldn't beat Steph in the playoffs and wouldn't even get to LeBron without Steph.

Let’s be honest if they didn’t get kd they was never gonna win a ship again.

Bron literally stole they hearts and they wasn’t gonna be able to recover. Plus being honest Curry took a step back after that injury in the 2016 playoff and haven’t been the same player since.

If they don’t get kd what are they option? Resigning Barnes? Looking for another starting sf? Starting iggy and hurting they bench?

:dwillhuh: I’m a Bron stan/KD hater. This thread is designed to diminish the Cavs ring and prop up Steph at the expense of the rest of the Warriors, ignoring the different factors that made the 2016 Warriors what they were (deep bench, elite system, elite defense, multiple ball handlers, two GOAT shooters, and of course the MVP). But dudes are trying to rewrite history and act like they weren’t a superteam to justify KD signing there, the same dudes that would be upset if KD was able to sign with the Cavs. Truth is, KD and Steph needed each other to beat a Bron team with all his horses.
