The immigration debate in this country is a perfect example of how utterly fukked we are...

In one corner you have the right Trump nazi KKK subhuman filth lunatic that wants to ban anyone that isn't a pasty krakker and in the other corner the left kale eating hipster millennial queens that want to allow everyone, their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, neighbors into the country unchecked with full benefits...

You cannot possibly have a reasonable debate let alone create sensible immigration policy with extremists like this...

The common sense solution to immigration has always been a system designed around a path to citizenship in mind...That path to citizenship should be focused on productivity and assimilation...People that want to come to this country work and be productive should be allowed to...No reason for anyone in this country for 5+ years who speaks English, works pays his taxes and abides by the law to not be eligible for citizenship...

That said the path to citizenship should not be easy, the US government should not be giving any hand outs to economic migrants and background checks need to be thorough...The system has to be tough to weed out potential leeches and national security threats...Allowing you to enter the country and work is not a right, its a privilege...You say you want to come here to work, you better have a plan for where you're going to work and where you're going to live otherwise you won't be staying long...

Government aid should only be available for migrants fleeing persecution and other similar circumstances...

You’re clowning the millennial left but your answer is pie in the sky idealism about citizenship.

Let’s all be honest, the only difference between the immigration debate now than previous generations is the Latino angle.

They aren’t coming on boats that you can turn away or planes you can check. Once they have family in this country it’s done. They aren’t leaving no matter how much or little they contribute to this country.

So any fix without acknowledging they have an advantage over other immigrants is never going to satisfy Republicans if at all.

Trump is just playing on ignorance of his base cause a wall is a physical thing you can see and point to even if it’s meaningless.

After a heated interview with MSNBC's Joy Reid over his defense of President Trump calling Haiti a "shythole country," pro-Trump pastor Mark Burns told Reid she should move to Haiti "since she's more concerned about Haitian immigrants than black Americans here in poverty."

Pro-Trump pastor tells MSNBC host to move to Haiti after heated interview on Trump's 'shythole' remark
Redi responded with a Bible verse: "Let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and in truth."

the way the trump campaign played haitians in the 2016 elections is damn near brilliant. they didn't convince them to vote for him in any meaningful numbers but they sure as hell made them want to stay home.

I never attributed that to Trump or his campaign. The State Department papers and Clinton's admission to devastating the economy did it for me.

So glad Mia Love was speaking out against Trump statements when he was offending other racial groups guess it took her stuff to hit home for her to say something

Hypocrisy is universal. With that said, as a poltiician, she clearly wasn't representing the citizens of the US or her state by doing that.

:picard: I've never even heard about that until now. That sounds too familar to what the US prison system was doing to females inmates in California prisons, IIRC.
