My Grandma was the "Family Services Manager" of a Head Start for had to be 30+ years when she retired. It was crazy the amount of people she directly helped in that role. She couldn't go anywhere in town and not run into someone she helped along the way. By the time she retired, she had generations of families come through her Head Start. Her town was mostly rural white, and clearly the kind of people that vote against their self interest for Trump. There was one mechanic she went to cause she never had to pay for shyt, she made such an impact on his life when he was just starting out as a poor underprivileged child. That he never forgot her. This Country is so fukked up and most of them are doing it to themselves.

This pisses me off to no end. My mom just retired from Head Start. She has taught generations the alphabet, how to read and much more. She can barely go anywhere without bumping into a former student that is in high school, has graduated from college, or are working adults with kids of their own; many of whom she taught as well.
One of my coworkers always asks about her when I bump into him. He was damn near in tears when he found out that my mom was his daughter’s Head Start teacher. “She taught me baby how to read. She was so kind and patient with her man .”
