It's not really one way though.

As a Nigerian American who has grown up with African Americans, I've met quite a lot of AA's have adopted the mentality of being better than Nigerians(African booty scratcher, thinking every Nigerian person lives in poverty, etc) due to the fact that they've lived in America when in reality they've just been an oppressed group of people who are tolerated like unwanted house guests more than anything.

Personally, I find it to be backwards on both sides. We're both groups of people who came from the same place and have seen our progress as people inhibited by white oppression(Colonialism vs slavery) Whether or not we're AA's or native blacks, we are black, and that makes us equally inferior in the eyes of most people in America and abroad.

Sorry for your experience, but milllions of Black Americans were also called “African booty scratcher” - my brother who is dark- skinned being one — it was a term used by everyone.

I am from Michigan and we did not and still do not have any Africans in my city/area — and we heard it all over the play ground and school.

It was a colorism term. I am kinda over hearing that excuse.

And Nigerians and others have their own stereotypes and conceptions about black Americans due to media and believing it — and not knowing nor respecting/empathizing with our history in this country before coming over by choice.

And we too did not have the knowledge or access to learn about Africa as a continent and the many cultures/countries— like we do now.

What trump said today— Is what we were taught as well.. or led to believe about a whole continent. Not our fault - especially a child.


Colonialism versus slavery ... nah I don’t see the comparisons — Black Americans are still all we have - America is our home.

You can choose to go back home — and make it better or just go back. It’s a big difference — and many of you let us know that.

Nah, we really don't come from the same place. Our ancestors came from Africa. But black people were born in the belly of America, which separates us from you. And that isn't to dismiss your struggle, but I'm tired Africans acting as we are the same and we are dealing with the same hardship. You all have an identity, a continent of many African nations led by African people, with resources that can turn your land into the most prosperous if utilized correctly. Black people are b*stard children with no home or identity or even stable community. We are our own people.
