I think he literally just does shyt to say he can do it and use it as an ego boost/leverage point for his campaign/legacy. Does he care about the humanitarian aspect of prison reform... hell no. He promised his supporters that he was going to "build that wall" and that never happened.
This whole prison reform thing could easily be another smoke screen to get support from people, that actually turns out to be nothing at all 2-3 years later

He did sign the First Step Act into law.
Obama had an obstructive congress for most of his presidency so Trump has more leeway to do prison reform. More power to him if he doing it for ego.

Not really. If this was any normal Republican or Democrat I wouldn't mind it.
But everyone knows Trump is a bullshytter. He doesn't actually care about criminal justice reform. If so, he wouldn't be pro stop & frisk, he wouldn't have publicly encouraged police brutality, and he wouldn't have appointed a white supremacist Attorney General who reversed all the criminal justice reform policies of the previous Department of Justice on day 1. In fact, he's part of the reason that a criminal justice reform bill backed by Pres.Obama, Democrats and Republicans died in Congress in 2016. Because he was the tough on crime/police guy and scared Republicans into not backing the bill.
But now everything suppose to be cool. Nah. He's doing this because he knows there is a section of the black population that is gullible and there's an election coming. And one of his defense mechanisms when he's accused of being a racist is that "I do so much for the blacks". And there will be a segment of the population, including on here that's gullible enough to support and vote for him in 2020. And part of that group includes this weird indirect militant/alt-right alliance that's been going on for a while.
I don't give credit to people like him.
