He's not wrong. America has been far too deferential to those in power who break the law. Confederate leaders, reconstruction leaders, Jim Crow leaders, Nixon, W, Trump, Clinton to an extent.

I quoted them for emphasis, not in disagreement. That one simple idea, that commerce somehow overcomes/permits/forgives all, has been the inspiration for not just local US atrocities but also all manner of folly abroad from Nazism to apartheid and ongoing obsessions with global hegemony.
