The United States is a wildly novel experiment, completely different from most nations since it's foundation, and has become the most successful due in part to the way it has tried to check power. A government formed to protect the general welfare of its people by allowing people to select its leaders, as opposed to some holy decree, or martial dominance.

At the end of the day, not everyone can be self-reliant, and people have to be protected from those who would take advantage or harm them. So yes, you need an entity who can have a monopoly of force to maintain individuals rights, and create social safety nets so some people don't fall in the cracks.

Humanity has already done it your way for 5 millenia, and we know it results in overabundance for the 1% of a society, and misery and anguish for everyone else.
