It always bothers me how comfortable kickboxers and Muay Thai fighters are with getting hit. Good boxers have way better defense.

If this was boxing none of them would’ve landed a bunch

Boxers are protecting themselves from just 2 fists and only have to guard half their body. It's completely different from a Muay Thai situation where you have at least 8 major points of offense (hands, elbows, knees, feet). Plus you can put a guy in a cinch and just go to work.

Think of a boxer with his hands up tight around his face and then just taking one knee after the other.

I think someone like Floyd Mayweather would be able to find a defense. I just think the mentality of being “tough” is such an outdated strategy.

That was my main point. These guys take damage for no reason. It’d be cool to see some defense once in a while

Yeah it seems much easier to attack in kickboxing/Muay Thai, but much tougher to defend because there are simply too many options to protect against.

Boxing seems like it's much easier to defend, but more difficult to attack than kickboxing/Muay Thai because you don't have as many options to open someone up.

You definitely can sit and wait around in boxing more than Muay Thai. Muay Thai it feels like you got to be somewhat more proactive and you can't be so reactive and wait for the opportunity while you're getting blasted by kicks/knees. Not really many options when someone grabs your neck and starts launching. Basically if you get into this sport you gotta have a large emphasis on tanking shots because it's going to happen.

Basically to have insane defense you'd have to be supremely talented (check that pull counter dodge in the video), including physically to bend like you're made of rubber and maybe a little batshyt crazy to even have the audacity to fight like this:

Even then you're using a lot of conditioned limbs to check shots.

Taking punishment is a horrible game plan for fighting. Of course it’s going to happen but I see it way too much these guy’s barely ever practice defense. Boxing is a lot more technical and advanced

They really don't take head blows though. Thai fighters slowly break you down using all their limbs. It's just a tradition of absorbing damage.

Boxing is a great foundation, but that will get you bodied quick against a Thai fighter.

Breh you don't know Thai fighting. I'm not exaggerating when i say Mayweather will take 2 leg kicks and be immobilized. Them Thai kicks are practically baseball bats. Dudes leave the ring on stretchers because they can't walk

Take away a boxers legs and everything goes. No defense, footwork, or power.

You’re right I’m uneducated on the subject. It’s just an aspect of that fighting style I don’t like. Just taking a hit, when it could be avoided.

Stop comparing boxing to other fight disciplines. They all require different skillsets. Floyd is not stepping into a Muy Thai ring and defending against knees, clinches, and kicks because he's never been trained to do so. He goes into an octagon and a smart fighter is immediately going for a takedown and submission before he has no clue how to defend against it.

Y'all only think boxing is superior because you don't watch any other fighters enough.

You're on defense waiting for a punch and never see this coming:
