I wonder at what point WCW begin showing late night replays of Nitro and how that related to WWF's increase in ratings during the Monday Night War. I remember during that time I'd give Raw majority of my attention since I knew I could record/watch Nitro on the replay so I wonder how many were doing the same.

I doubt it had much to do with Raw in the first place. Replaying Nitro would get higher ratings than whatever else would air in the time slot and for free, meaning Turner got more ad revenue and bragging rights for the weekly cumulative network ratings. Not dissimilar to what USA does with the third hour of Raw.
