Man, for years I've maintained that I never laughed at Heenan (or Ventura) ONCE after they went to WCW. Not one time.
Heenan got me a few times but yeah it was very hit or miss in WCW
One was unintentional when Pillman made him curse on live tv
The other I can remember was on one of the PPV's Arn Anderson use wrestling I think Alex Wright and he complains to the ref saying Alex pulled his hair.
Shiovone: there's no hair to pull there
Heenan: I'm gonna tell him you said that
Shiovone: oh you are huh?
Heenan: yep, he's gonna pull ur eyebrows up over your lips
Shiovone: my eyebrows UP over my lips?
Heenan: think about it
Shiovone: ugh that sounds horrible
Heenan: ur not gonna like it

more ppl watch RAW/Nitro than PPV's.
So it's a trade-off of do you have this huge event on PPV or let millions more see it for free and build ur brand more? Clash of the Champions was free as well

I think Tony Schiavonie is partially the reason Heenan never did well early on, before he later became an NWO-hater/WCW hugger. Tony never really pushed back against Heenan's quips the way Monsoon did. As quick witted as Heenan was, Monsoon's annoyance with him worked perfectly b/c he created new jokes on the spot.
Schiavone completely no-sold Heenan for most of his run. Heenan would feed him lines and then it'd just be a few seconds of awkward silence and Schiavone would start talking about something else. They were a terrible team. Heenan was completely wasted in WCW.
Jesse did okay in WCW, I thought. His stanning for Rude was great, but it did seem like he stopped having fun with it. I thought he worked well with Ross, although Ross would no-sell him sometimes as well, but not as bad as Schiavone did with Heenan.

So I'm watching Summerslam 1997 and I'm trying to skip the Owen/Austin match and I land exactly at the point where Owen gives Austin the piledriver. Cringeworthy moment, knowing what Austin went through at that moment.
