Wait a second- are you saying his albums weren't all backmasked? I know he was the master at putting a lot of work on singles- How Do U Want It, Live and Die in LA, and I Ain't Mad at Cha come to mind, but did he do this on albums too?

:obama: Check out the edited version of 'All Eyez on Me' - 1996 version, who knows what Death Row did on those re-releases once money stopped pouring in

yo I was reading something about pac and dre

Why woud Tupac have a problem working with a bisexual man unless he was attracted to the man himself and knew he couldnt fight his urges? I always heard through the grapevine that tupac was gay

yo,what :dead:

Nah its not

WHen I say lyrically Im talking

Heavy use of alliteration
Double/triple entendres
wordplay/homophones
etc etc.

this is not lyrical..the fact that you think this is lyrical makes me understand why some of you guys stan Pac..

His message is what drove his song...not his technique
His delivery in his voice is and the time it was made is what drove this song
This song was not lyrical..dnt ever make that mistake and impute that aspect of rap on Pac....ever in your life

Lyricism is the technique aspect of rapping apart from the voice and flow(tho flow does in time relate to alliteration)

You're being too single-minded here. Great music can come from all different approaches and avenues. Some cats are witty and metaphorical, some cats are evocative, some are just lighthearted...bottom line, to place a singular focus on one style of song writing, and elevate that to the only acceptable approach is foolhardy.

Why not just appreciate this song, without damming others who use other song writing devices?

"Changes" was one of those songs that transcended the genre itself, it brought attention to people that usually don't fukk with rap/HipHop at all and made them go "now that's deep". Same goes for a song like let's say Guns N Roses "November Rain", when even non-rock fans dig that song and listen to it.

I remember this song to be on heavy rotation everywhere, and the ackward part was the fact that you didn't get tired of hearing it on the radio or elsewhere.

Pac :salute:

What's Sting got to do with this song?

I thought this was the original....

Right, Im guessin' Pac either made a mistake in his sample attribution, or he originally wanted to sample a different song. The latter wouldnt make little sense, however, because Nas was able to sample "the message" w/ no problem.

I don't think he was talking about Changes when he said that. Pac sampled Sting several times. He was probably talking about Black Cotton though, since he never released that while he was alive:

samples:

Which Pac mentioned was one of his favorite songs.

Do you think they would've let Tupac in the position that they let Jay-Z in?

Listen to this, 2Pac - When Thugz Cry (Makaveli 3 day theory OG) - YouTube - you need to hear the original to understand the level of musicianship that was in Tupac's direction. At 25 he represented something far beyond what Jay-Z is, Jay-Z's impact is great but it's more of an extension of his music rather than being a direct result of his music.

He has nothing that reaches that magnitude of "Changes", he doesn't have the depth and consistency of Tupac's catalog and it's not even close. Jay-Z's impact is as a figure, Tupac would've done so much more. Without question.
Good lord that song is dope as hell. Damn I miss Pac. :to:

What makes imagine so much greater than changes that it can't even be compared to it?

everyone knows imagine, im talkin young/old heads, english speaking/non-english speakers. you got school kids singing that ish as part of their cirriculum in music classes

changes still aint quite up there yet. matter of fact, as much as i want to, i cant really say any hip hop track will have that kinda reach to such a diverse audience
