I also heard parts of the SouthSide used to be pretty bad, like Chicago-Franklin, the Cedar Riverside Towers ('the crack stacks') and parts of Phillips.

I still here gunshots from time to time, and in the last 6 months the amount of crackheads as increased, but I'll still walk back home at 3AM and am never worried. But if you ain't tied into the social groups and drama you aint really gonna have to worry, unless you live in places where gangs and crews beef spills over into civilians.

Plus a lot of the Southside is Somali, and they probably into stupid ass shyt the LEAST out of all the groups here.

I'm from the area and am a big Atmosphere fan. That being said, you can't bump that type of shyt everyday, probably been at least a year since I bumped a whole album. You also got Brother Ali, Eyedea, POS/Doomtree. It is a very Rhymesayers concentrated scene, for better or for worse. Obviously if that self-reflective shyt ain't for you, it ain't for you, but that's what's there. Real winter music shyt.

My favorite local project that you've never heard of (Slug and a bunch of random Rhymesayers dudes)....... also to be fair, I only really pay attention to Slug's verses.

You got Soundset coming once a year. This years lineup (off the top) was Lupe, Rae and Ghost, Action Bronson, Kendrick, Danny Brown, KRIT, Aesop Rock, DJ Premier.

You got the occasional street banger coming out the Cities

Can't find that old "I Rep MN" joint but whatever

It is wack that there ain't no rap station (:merchant:) but I don't listen to the radio anyway.

It ain't the best, it ain't the worst, it just is what it is.

HOW COULD I ALMOST FORGET Ant is such an underrated producer

Thought Audition was meh, but Never Better and We Don't Even Live Here are very dope albums.

Never Better was what got me into him.

And then I heard the Bleeding Heart song with Slug, and was hypnotized into getting Audition.

But Never Better is BEST.

I'll check out We Don't Live Here Anymore.

Daps. :salute:

Our hip-hop scene has the same problem the citizens of Minnesota has and that's a sense of entitlement. These dudes out here don't understand that this "real" hip-hop they are making sucks. We have talented artists who make good songs but it's nothing i wanna listen to in a car if im rolling around.

Bunch of depressed pussies around here wondering why they aint on while the rest of us are stjll wondering who they are. Too many white idiots here for hip-hop to really pop off here.

It doesn't help that Rhymesayers is the only hip-hop label in Minnesota so all these emotional ass rappers trying to imitate Atmosphere's sound. If you wanna make it, leave Minneapolis and come back to put us on. You aint bubbling up here no matter the time and effort you put in.

Too much entitlement, too many suburbs, too many people thinking there frat boy crowds will carry them to prominence.
