Love both of them, but being more marketable/palatable doesn't negate the fact that not only did Lupe lay a lot of groundwork for him, there is an undeniable density to his lyrics and subject matter especially when it comes to the matter at hand.

Definitely agree with this. I think that's why he has such contempt for kendrick. Imagine making a stance thinking you setting a precedent only for the industry to find a newer, much more watered down mainstream friendly version of you
