id rank em

mgs1
mgs3
mgs2
mgs5
mgs4

two is so much better than people give it credit for the more i get older

5s problem stems from two things imo:

Lack of compelling boss fights
-skulls allure wore off after the second fight for me, and just like mgs4 they basically meant nothing to the story
-you dont even fight the main atagonist :why:

Character development
-Only person im watching change is myself through the main character
-Zero depth in ocelot
-Could have really pushed with eli, huey, and kaz

i know a good bit about mgs story so the loose ends are tied up nicely, but with that being said it didnt come with the "theatre" we are all accustomed to

9/10

it would be 10/10 if those things i mentioned werent so bad. The gameplay however is several notches above the rest. I didnt mind the mother base control etc. You are Big Boss, part of being the man...including all the decisions you may have to make :sas2:

No other action game matches it in terms of content.

Open world massive size game with great visuals, great controls, and great gameplay. It was Kojima's first take on this kind of game and it was amazing. Yeah there could have been some more 'RPG' elements and random NPCs, but as it stands, it's not being touched when you compare it to action adventure games or stealth games.

Also, the AI >>>>>>>>>>>>>
With kojimas imagination, i was expecting way better. Gameplay is dope but everything gets repetitive with opps QUICK
Godly gameplay but meh story. I finally finished Chapter 1 today with about 45 hours of game time. Not sure I will go through Chapter 2 for a while since Fallout 4 is out today.

Is it worth it?

Edit: To expand a bit more, the tape system for the story was awful. I gave up on listening to them about halfway through. Just a hassle to go through them.

The whole mother base was a waste of time to me. I built some stuff up so I could develop more weapons/items but didn't care beyond that. Kept getting messages about recruits fighting or getting sick so they'd get kicked out or quarantined. Just ignored those messages. I just wanted to play the game, not micro manage all this extra shyt. :camby:
tape system was truly awful

:heh: @ the Tape System being a chore

How? With all that you can do in the game... Sorting out recruits, going through side ops, upgrading weapons... There's plenty of stuff you could do while the tapes played. Gameplay was at the forefront in MGSV. Instead of being forced to watch 30-60 minute cinematics to get the story, you got tapes that you could play wherever and when ever you wanted while playing the game

Only things you can complain about is the story and boss fights. Anything else is a reach
It does so much right in terms of gameplay mechanics and systems in the game world. One of the best videogames of all time in that regard. But out of the 50 or so story missions, maybe 10 of them were really good? Story wasn't great either.

Also game was too damn long. If they had given 1/2 the game content and made the game's mission twice as good, it would have been a far superior game. Matter fact, they should just given us 10-12 missions on the quality of Ground Zeroes. That woulda been a perfect 15 hour game right there.

Codec = Tapes
Not really. It felt like a lazy alternative to some cut scenes. They could've had both.

Codecs were mainly circumstantial and relative to where you at in game. A few codec calls here and there in the game wouldn't infringe upon the "gameplay" people love bringing up.

Some extra scenes wouldn't make the controls laggier or make ADS with guns clunky. A codec call wouldn't make enemy AI dumber or make less weapons available for development. A few codec calls would add some sense of urgency and progression to the story. Some of the codec calls were engaging man.

I just miss the original MGS structure. They deviated FAR too much from the OG formula. I see no reason for it at all. If they had made first chapter slightly shorter and cut out some of the more redundant missions(Like was extracting all these nikkas with important intel that integral?)

In the end, I think there's just a divide among the fans. Some don't really care about the story and "MGS" formula so to them they just want to play the game and then there's the side that loves the story and narrative and they put that first and everything else second. It's mainly a matter of what you're looking for. I think they could've had a way to get both fans happy. I think Motherbase, empty world and redundant missions could've been cut and replaced with more engaging content(story relevant missions and more depth to the world map.) The lack of interior stealth maps was disappointing as hell.

You never heard of a game being too long before breh? Not only were the missions not very interesting, it fukking repeated them. It was clearly time to wrap it up at the 25 hour mark.

I would've preferred a stronger story and cut to the chase design that ended around 30 hours. The Motherbase stuff and side ops could've been left for side ops. They basically stretched the story thin with lots of filler to mask the game length.

Why is this game open world?

There are too many damn missions that are too similar.

I don't mind the tapes.
