How was it?

All these years of people complaining about MGS cutscenes, Kojima decides to finally make something convenient and it's a problem :bryan:
Yeah, skipping through codec dialog on your future playthroughs isn't more of a chore than simply listening to the tapes when you feel like it. The way people nitpicked this game is ridiculous

I rank them in this order and think they are all classics.
All of them are 8/10 minimum.

MGS1
MGS3

23 missions in and it's still my favorite game I've played thus far this year, but I haven't gotten my hands on Fallout 4 yet which arrives tomorrow, so this could easily change.
I by far and away enjoyed it much more than I did The Witcher 3, which will likely get a lot of GOTY nods.
This I didn't finish but the game is piff. The story is meh for MGS standards but the gameplay is some of the best imo

Not really. People said they were disappointed and still gave the game a 9/10

Game is piff, face it. You only started knocking the game after gathering other's opinions online which then shaped yours.

The "you only saying this because of online opinions" point is moot since I was in denial throughout the game. You saw my earlier posts.

Being disappointed and still saying it's great isn't mutually exclusive. You can be disappointed with a game because it didn't meet your expectations. Deflecting and acting like the game is perfect and any one saying otherwise is just regurgitating online speak is a deflection and is dismissive at best. It's the finger in ear deflection. You think it's perfect and piff OK, I think it's severely flawed.

Great game. Ending kinda ruined it for me. Would not put above MGS3. May not even play it again.

9/10.

Best controls in a game all year though.

id rank em

mgs1
mgs3
mgs2
mgs5
mgs4

two is so much better than people give it credit for the more i get older

5s problem stems from two things imo:

Lack of compelling boss fights
-skulls allure wore off after the second fight for me, and just like mgs4 they basically meant nothing to the story
-you dont even fight the main atagonist :why:

Character development
-Only person im watching change is myself through the main character
-Zero depth in ocelot
-Could have really pushed with eli, huey, and kaz

i know a good bit about mgs story so the loose ends are tied up nicely, but with that being said it didnt come with the "theatre" we are all accustomed to

9/10

it would be 10/10 if those things i mentioned werent so bad. The gameplay however is several notches above the rest. I didnt mind the mother base control etc. You are Big Boss, part of being the man...including all the decisions you may have to make :sas2:

9/10 for me, chapter 2 ruins it thus not getting a 10 from me.

People acknowledging that they were disappointed but still can't give the game lower than a 9.

The poll is goofy as all games can be better, and all games can have disappointing aspects to them. Even with MGSV's controversial ending and the drama around what was going on with Konami/Kojima it still offered more than damn near any game in it's genre has, so even if you sit back and say, "I wish they did this or did that" you can't front on what's there already...

Also, if you add the bottom 2 poll choices together it's not close

I'm still somewhere in Chapter 2 so I won't comment too much about the story but gameplay wise this game is nothing short of incredible. Both the stealth and the action works and feels truly dynamic to your choice of playstyle. You got some of the best AI in game history as well, incredibly in-depth resource/base management for those who care about that shyt. Level design for an open world game is pretty incredible too, with (as far as I've noticed) no glitches or fukk-ups whatsoever. For a game that gets called 'unfinished' a lot (I know, for story/mission reasons), there's nothing broken about the gameplay itself (outside of maybe the MB coins/micro-transaction shyt). Matter of fact, the only thing you can fault Kojima is that he might've been too ambitious because this game is so packed it blows my mind every time I stop to think about it.

The cassette tapes? I can't hate on them. Only one out of ten actually have vital information and the game highlights those for you in yellow. The other nine out of ten are the typical Kojima endless rambling about technology and war and all that stuff. I mostly put those on as I do side-ops so I pick up what's on them but it's not detracting from any vital mission stuff. Storywise it does leave some things to be desired, even before finishing it, so I get why that might disappoint the fans. It kinda disappoints me too, but gameplay-wise this is such an incredible joy to play that I can't let it ruin my enjoyment too much.

This is truly an incredible game, and I would say that I can't wait to finish it but I know that's probably gonna be another 50 hours at the rate I'm going.

Great game but one of the worst metal gears imo. Gameplay was good but everything else that makes Metal Gear what it is wasn't there. Story, boss battles, cutscenes, codecs, good characters :mjcry:

Lets be real... years later when we're talking about Metal Gear nobody is going to remember the boss battles, characters, quotes and all that like we do with the other games.

Didn't think I would ever talk shyt about Kojima's work:to:
