You know Bev and Conley would have played a factor in his performance against their teams, right? He wasn't going to be able to waltz on up and drain threes with two of the best point guard defenders on him.
Well now you just flipped the script from Curry defending other PG's (which Ty was alluding to) to Curry being defended by other PG's. To that point, Beverley wasn't playing his usual good defense this past season and would've gotten cooked regardless. Especially with how terribly the team defended in transition and a fast pace that plays directly into the Warriors hands. Should've watched Curry drop 22 on 7-12 FG & 10 assists (33 min) and 27 on 9-18 FG & 11 assists (33 min) with Beverly in the lineup for Houston this season. Here's one of those games
Trevor Ariza is the actual best option on that team for defending Stephen Curry, who really can't be defended by one guy to begin with. Takes a team effort + a perfectly executed defensive strategy like the Cavs displayed in the Finals and that only worked temporarily.
Did you know Curry shoots 46% from behind the arc against the Grizzlies on 7.1 attempts for his career? This is with Mike in the lineup. He hasn't really held Curry in check who shot very well with him as the primary defender.
And I'm a Pelicans fan, Jrue is a very good defensive player imo better than both Mike & Bev, but he was helpless to stop this type of performance as any individual defender at the position will be without an ample amount of support. Support I don't think the Pelicans would have provided him considering how poor our defense was on the season.
