We would have never heard of this n1gga. These artist trying to get paid off the sweat, hard work, gansta sh1t, and distribution deals that Birdman (and Juvenile n those guys) created. Wayne shouldn't get checks because he shares it w daddy anyway.

Birdman throws checks in the bushes because .... wtf they gonna do about it? Stay unknown? Or have Bird put them on, and accept the no check and keep it moving before they get dealt with. Not everyone has a gimmick as good as Chief k or some other internet person.

Drake is rich and famous as fck off being corny.... Tyga drives what he wants, fukks who he wants, and he's not poor... these nikkas can't complain about sh1t.

:why:

They can't complain? You serious breh? They entered into a business agreement to get paid from the work they do. They damn sure CAN complain and should.

If you wasn't getting paid at your job upfront and how to go about gettin money in some roundabout way, you'd be raising all types of hell.

fukk that shyt. Cash Money is just raping these cats with no jelly, and only a sucker would be content with them table scraps.

shoulda made your own money when you had the chance.. you can't expect labels to do this shyt for you... and if you do expect it, once you figure out they ain't fukking doing it, why you still sitting around 5 years later with no music still done?

You can expect the label to put the machine behind you though.

If all you getting out of a record deal is a damn co-sign on their part, then signing was pointless.

You coulda gone indie if you were gonna have to do all the work yourself

As far as I can tell birdman has never cut a royalty check in his 20+ years in the business

How a man with this bad of a reputation is still around is beyond me

No matter how many artists you hear about getting fukked over they still continue to sign that contract without legal representation. Countless rappers have probably got hit with the sign it or we move on option. Now you take the average cat in the streets who havent had anything and dont no the finer things in life and thats most rappers. So they signing that contract sight unseen. But you have to have a lawyer who knows what they are looking at and knows what they are doing. But honestly its probably a hard choice to make. I know a rapper named Dok Strange (look him up) who has chilled with Snoop and Rick Ross. Snoop offered him 50,000 which i assume was an advance. But he didnt sign it saying it wasnt enough. But to this day he still aint signed and he has more talent than 95 percent of the rap game. So i guess it works both ways as far as taking that fukked up contract and having a chance or not and then never making it.

Heard the interview he actually said that he doesn't get royalties because they are alloted cover his touring/video/etc. expenses and that he makes his money off of touring heavily so from what I gathered he has a contract set up like that in order to have YMCMB eat the bill by recouping by keeping the royalties so that he keeps his profit margin high and his expenses incurred low.

so where does the other 11.80 from the album sale go to? thats what i dont really understand.

It's split between the record label, distributor, and retailer. I think I know what your getting at when you ask that and basically "how come the record label doesnt recoup their money based on the % they receive from the record sales". But that's basically wherein the "dirty" part of the music industry lies. That isnt a tactic specific to Cash Money/Universal tho. Pretty much EVERY label does this and has probably been going on since the inception of the music business.

Tyga's good, w/o Cash Money or YMCMB he's at best a Kid Ink type. A regional talent probably making like 10-20gs a show locally. He aint getting no major endorsement deals or nothing. Tyga on the other hand is making quadruple that anywhere in the country and has a major Reebok endorsement. Also think about whose footing the bill for Kid Ink's touring (if they have any), videos, studio fees, marketing/promo, etc. Compared to Tyga who doesn't have to come out of pocket for any of that. Think about is WSHH had a countdown ad on top of their page for Tyga's Hotel Cali album starting a week before it released, that top banner ad costs like $3000 a day (probably gets a discounted rate if you're buying bulk days like that but it still aint cheap).

Obviously some of you guys don't understand how the music industry works. Most artists never get paid by the record label. Most record deals are loans that are virtually impossible to pay back.

What was he supposed to get a check for?
They pay for his flopping ass albums with mad features (and last album had mad promotion as well), free Drake and Wayne features, pay for his tours etc etc.

He gets his show money, which is a fair deal?

What type of check would he want? 100k from his record sales? Then he could pay Drake 100k for that feature.

Point being he wouldn't be shyt without YMCMB, he's eating real good of his shows and YMCMB set him up with everything he needs (for the last album at least).

Lol, right? These days, it is beyond me why anyone would sign to a major. I don't know 1 single person who buys any music anymore.

Breh who would you rather be Kid Ink or Tyga. They both make the same Hip Pop-ish club type of records. Im sure Tyga's money >>>>>>>>>> Kid Ink.

Being on a major versus being Indie is all gonna come down to the type of music you make and the kind of appeal your looking. Of course its better for an artist like say Tech N9ne to be indie, that shyt has NO mass appeal. But for an artist like Tyga who makes Club records and WANTS those records played in clubs across the Globe from Ibiza to South Beach a major is the way to go.
