Someone asked in another thread if Mike Brown had changed us, or if it was business as usual. I dont think its business as usual..who would have ever thought someone like Tyga would try say something positive about Black people and our history?? Most nikkas never knew of a starting point, at least HC is a starting point for most.
both trying to take credit for shyt done before they even knew if they would exist. the equivalent of "My dad accomplished A B ad C and therefore i'm great." and we all do it too. I do it. We all desperately want to belong to something associated with greatness. ultimately we want to raised our perceived worth. even with sports teams we do it. we all want to feel like we're part of a legendary story. something epic. maybe we feel like doing this will motivate us to forge a greater future for ourselves. yet most of us are just very ordinary people trying to get by day to day. we're probably gonna all live about 75 summers, then we die and forgotten by history in about 50 years. it's no wonder we want to be associated with something epic. and again, I'm not better, i get caught up in the hype too from time to time.
but ultimately, i think knowing history is important not only because of the lessons but also to understand how it affects our day to day lives and how to get a better position in the game. I think pride is important for inspiration and motivation but don't get too caught up in it. don't allow it to make you lose focus on what needs to be done today to gain happiness and power for yourself first, then your family, then friends, and then community.
