I liked his verse on the Clipse album. But why does he get a pass for being gay but still talking about hoes?

Its a hipster inside joke. Semi-ironic Lil' B type of thing. I think that's how it started.

And then he started acting like a real artist and ppl started forgetting it was a joke.

"They're all in on it"

...or some other weird anime nerd shyt I'm not hip to.

These type of cats will suck a dikk and tell you it's not gay, it's just a joke.

Somebody still needs to be held accountable for the Lil B gag.

I was literally on SOHH the day Yonkers dropped and the OF movement started. Still a huge fan of the Internet and Earl was/is my favorite spitter in the crew and of course Frank was dropping critically acclaimed classics. So I say this as someone who’s seen his whole career unfold.

But time to call it out. This man has NO hit records. Extremely average bars where he literally ain’t saying shyt. Earl’s I Don’t Like shyt I Don’t Go Outside lyrically shyts on anything Tyler has ever written and that album dropped 10 years ago.

He’s been compared to his idols Kanye and Pharrell but he’s literally nooooowhere near their level in terms of creativity or originality. He rehashes a lot of their sounds. He’s never produced a project or made a hit record for anyone while those two practically gave away hits in hip hop and R&B. To me there’s really nothing to compare between them other than they both rap and produce. I can’t think of one memorable record from his discography that stands out as something special. I have joints I really like (See You Again, Run It Up, Droppin Seeds) but they’re just nice cool records.

After a couple spins of the new album it just sounds like a mess. He’s trying to channel a Kaytranada vibe on some of the records but none of it rocks. He made a post after releasing the album talking about why people don’t dance anymore but you can’t dance to any of the shyt on this album! It doesn’t bounce or groove like that. You won’t see ANY shorties shakin they ass to this this summer.

He has amazing marketing and has crafted his image over the last decade brilliantly and I think he shines there more than any music he’s ever made. I know some Coli nikkas really like him and view him as some hip hop messiah but he doesn’t have any records that I truly want to go back and revisit after the initial drop and hype wears off. This year we got legit potential classic albums in :

Clipse - Let Go Sort ‘Em Out
Rome Streetz - Trainspotting
Larry June x Cardo - Until Night Comes
Larry June x Alc x Chainz - Life is Beautiful
MIKE - Showbiz!

Iceman coming soon and Freddie x Alc dropping this Friday. I can’t see this album topping any end of year lists or the joints I mentioned above from such a “critically acclaimed” artist.

What do yall think?
You typed all this shyt when you could've just said you hates Tyler's music and out of touch with wtf going on in rap :dead:

Breh literally got platinum records but "he has never made a hit"

But Rome streets has :mjlol:

What great hip hop artist doesn’t have a hit record? All the “greats” have at least 1. He’ll even Dead Prez got Hip Hop that will be played forever (longer than any record Tyler ever made)

The way he’s been hyped and pushed on the mainstream level as this Pharrell/Kanye hybrid falls extremely short when you can’t deliver hit records like those two did.

:manny:
Nah a “hit” will get you some attention, but it’s how your albums and performances resonate with people that makes fans stick around. We don’t love Dead Prez because of the single “Hip Hop”. It’s was quality of the albums, the dedication to being who they are, the stage shows, how they make their fans feel.

Let’s not pretend to be tastemakers. We may not consider his shyt a “hit”, but the people packing his shows do. He might be one of the last surviving “horror core” rappers, outside of Eminem.

A “hit” is a terrible way to evaluate the impact of an artist because we aren’t exposed to anything. Out there, there’s some Nasheed singer who’s probably sold more records than your favorite rapper. We don’t give a fukk about him, but that would automatically make him better.

I’ve never heard an immortal technique song or a Tech 9ne album, but they’re more popular than a lot of rappers we hold dear. It would be stupid for me to call them over rated.

You’re basically saying we should be listening to more Vanilla Ice, more Ace Hood, more Florida because they have “hits”.

Only on the coli Tylee is considered a failed rapper.

Dude just did a couple of sold out shows at MSG, a week ago. A self-produced platinum artist who started out recording in his bedroom, with a cult following and mad accolades.

But on here, he's not successful, lol.

i gave tyler a chance since he's getting a lot of praises from the media and folks on the coli, whose opinion i respect, called him a statesman of hip-hop...he has good songs here and there but he's not for me. he grew up with a lot of his fans from OF days so i can see why he has a huge following but i have never thought "i want to listen to some tyler" or heard anyone say "play that tyler".

his marketing and PR is top notch tho. i'll give him that.

nikka really tried to include Drake in the convo :dead:

Tyler is wayyyyy better lmfao. Tyler worst album is probably better than Drake best effort, from a pure objective standpoint.
