The U.S. posted a $146.8 billion budget deficit in May, the largest for the month since 2009, as revenue declined.

The budget gap rose 66 percent last month from a year earlier, the Treasury Department reported on Tuesday. Spending rose by 10.7 percent to $363.9 billion, compared with a 9.7 percent fall in receipts to $217.1 billion.

The government is facing increasing borrowing in the coming years partly due to tax cuts enacted this year and the strain on social and health spending from an aging population. For the first eight months of the fiscal year, the fiscal gap widened to $532.2 billion, up 23 percent from last year’s $432.9 billion deficit.

Turns out a giant tax cut for corporations is bad for the budget deficit.
I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

The deficit matters again?
the deficit always mattered during the obama years. we didn't stop hearing about. it only doesn't matter when republicans are cutting taxes and telling tall tales about magical revenue increases that never materialize. in the 80's it was deficits don't matter in the 90's we had to have a balanced budget, in the oughts it was reagan proved that deficits don't matter. and after all that shytty fiscal and general management we had the great recession and when deficits really shouldn't have mattered all we heard from republicans were "THE DEFICIT ... THE DEFICIT. THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN." now we have a republican president again deficits don't matter.

The timing is ridiculous, as well. To balloon the deficit in the late stages of an economic cycle and leave yourself no room to maneuver fiscally in the next coming recession is beyond irresponsible.

Such as?

BTW, that whole disingenuous "Dems are the same as the GOP" shyt don't work with me so lets be adults here. One party concedes to increases in Military spending because to deny it would frame them as "Anti-American" and further marginalize their attempts to get their own ideas across, and the other party with reckless abandon, signs off on any Military spending put forth because that's their parties platform.
