Understandable. I used to have the same attitude. But some people will want to engage and interact with you. It is what it is. That "I'm just here to do what I gotta do and go" mentality will limit you. It's not like he gotta do backflips and somersaults for these hoes... Just talk to them normally and get rid of the attitude/sass.
A simple "what you guys get into tonight?" or "where's the party at?" would suffice even if you don't really care. If you know how to read people you know that they wanted him to talk with them. He could've kept it short and professional.

I used to drive limos. If passengers were being talkative, I'd converse. If they wanted to hear certain music, I'd play it. If they tried hitting on me, male or female, I'd play it cool and tell them I'm married/straight. All with respect and professionalism. Tips were AMAZING. I got money and gifts every day I drove.
With that said, dude was being a crab to customers. I'm not saying he should have bent over backward to please them, but at the very least you could be courteous.
