their goal was to coast on a model that was legally questionable until there were self driving cars, then all those uber drivers would be jobless anyway.

fukk them

fukk "the gig economy"

america is a joke. so are tech bros with "new ideas" that is literally just undercutting regulations and banking on getting rich because they literally run all of the competition following regulations out of business.

i hope uber goes bankrupt and all their executives go to jail one day.

This is an interesting case study for ride share in CA. All the former Uber drivers will go to Lyft but there will be a surplus of drivers so drivers will not make as much and it benefits consumers. A possible monopoly with Lyft and they can raise prices which hurts consumers. However, costs may outweigh the benefits with considering every driver as a full-time employee. Another commentator already said Lyft is considering leaving the state too.

Any uber drivers in here, are the benefits worth the tradeoff? If you're an employee I assume uber will get to set your schedule, dictate your route, approve or deny time-off requests, set dress code etc

I always thought the main attraction to Uber was the ability to "be your own boss" and decide how much you want to work and make.
I dont condone this shyt, as an Uber driver :yeshrug:

I accept the tradeoff that comes with contract work. I don't have a boss and I work whenever I want. As a consequence, I have to pay my own health insurance.

Besides... Uber is hemorhaging money, and you expect them to give you more??

Uber is paying us more then they can afford already. This movement is going to bankrupt the company :mjlol:

Uber and Lyft warned they might temporarily shut down their services in California in response to a court ruling forcing them to start treating drivers in the state as employees.

A brief closure might seem like a drastic move, but it’s not exactly surprising. In fact, such a shutdown could prove to be a means for Uber and Lyft to appeal to voters — both riders and drivers alike — in the run up to a crucial vote on the November ballot.

Proposition 22 is a ballot measure backed by Uber, Lyft, Doordash and other gig economy companies which aims to exempt the companies from Assembly Bill 5, a state law enacted in 2020 that sets stricter standards for companies that seek to treat workers as contractors.

News Analysis: Uber and Lyft might halt California operations over a labor fight. That may help them in November

I think brehs shytting on Uber and Lyft may not be old enough to remember what it was like being black and trying to catch a cab. I'll support Uber, Lyft, or whatever the hell else shows up because at least with them my black ass could actually get a ride.

fukk cabs.

Ethiopians ran the cab game in Atlanta and fukk all of them.
