1st. What the fukk is the capital one cup?
2nd. I understand they want a wet coast school but UCLA isn't worth that much. They overpaid. UCLA ain't worth that much. They could have gotten them for cheaper cause I'm sure Addias wasn't coughing up that much. UCLA is a top 25-30 earner. Not a top 5.

1. I'm not sure if you are trying to be funny or not? If you don't know. It's awarded to the university that does the best in all college athletics. Universities want to win in all sports. Not just football and basketball.

2. UA overpaid to get UCLA. The facts remain that UA is #3 behind Adidas and Nike. They are going to have to overpay schools to get them. You are probably right that Adidas wasn't offering that type of money, but this could have easily been a case of UCLA feeling themselves and throwing out a number that UA unfortunately felt they had no choice to pay.

Other factors:

It's LA. 2nd most populous city in the country.
UCLA receives the most applications every year in the country.
Currently UCLA has 15 stores in South Korea, 49 in China, stores in India, Mexico, Signapore, Europe, and Kuwait. It's logo has become a global brand.
It has a 33% demographic of Asians. My guess is UA isn't trying to just make it big in the American market. It wants to make it big in the Pacific Rim.
UCLA has won more collegiate national championships then any other university.

But UCLA is top notch when their basketball is going great........If the football could ever get over the hump and win the conference it would pay off for Under Armour then too......Some article, it might have been this one, mentioned other sports like softball, etc. bringing in a lot of championships......

Anyway....they are getting $10 million more a year than Auburn from Under Armour:damn:

but Auburn got $10 million in stock a few years ago:youngsabo:
But they aren't. They have not won shyt in 20 years.

TYRONE GA!
they understand their place is in performance gear
they will never compete with nike/adidas from a pure style/aesthetic stand point
try and lock down the on field/on court shyt

Never say never. Nike wasn't Nike and didn't blow up until 20 years in the game after getting Jordan

I'm being dead serious. I have 0 clue like most of the American public does of what the capital one cup is. If it's not the football or final four championship nobody knows it exists. You don't dish out that kind of money for swimming and badminton teams. It's football and mens basketball money cause that's where your logo is being seen aka what you're paying for. You don't use that kinda money on a college yo try to break into other countries. You save that for players.
Why you think UA paying little ass Auburn all that money, not cause of their softball or tennis teams cause they're sorry ass football team is on national tv at a good time every other week. As opposed to UCLA who comes on after 10 for majority of the country. The LA market is huge but it's not worth that much.

the rest of the west is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to population and people

nike always been top notch performance wise
and they were dropping classic silhouettes before they signed mj

under armour has never made anything worth buying from a purely aesthetic/style perspective
and their logo just doesn't incorporate cleanly

never say never true but i'm 99.999999999999999999999999999 sure they'll never catch up in that regard

California is a good football and basketball state and is different from Texas/Florida in that it has Los Angeles going for it.

Los Angeles is a key trend-setter city for apparel/footwear. All of the instagram/viners that reach the younger demos that are most key for these companies are out there. You could argue that Under Armour does well as a performance brand but not yet as a casual/fashion brand like Nike does. It can be tough to round that style corner without getting in with the right "crowd".

USC already has Nike. UCLA has a decent enough presence in both football & basketball.

It's really process of elimination.

I think the only reason California seems to produce athletes is because California alone has as many people as the whole country of Canada, 30 million people. California's football and basketball athletes per capita probably isn't very high after sheer population is discounted.
