I think paddys style is what will give him problems, and he has a chin.

Is anyone really surpised he flatlined charles? Charles been had a glass jaw.
Paddy will get steam rolled and it will get ugly for him. illa efficiency with his striking will put paddy in no man’s land. Also I have no clue why people keep mentioning grappling being the route against ills, this ain’t Connor. Illa is an elite blackbelt, dude toreando(a pass used in bjj for open guards)passed Do Bronx guard to mounted crucifix. He also wrecked Ryan Hall who is and ELITE blackbelt in bjj. Illa is like that. I know anybody can be beat but, the likelihood of it being Paddy with the tools he has? I don’t see any pathway to give him favorable odds.

I train myself(14yrs) , my 20yr old son is bjj blackbelt(he mauls a lot of d-1 wrestling guys in a straight submission grappling setting) due to we just have waaay more answers so solve situations once it hits the ground and mma head coach. He and I say all the time the avg fan has no clue what and ELITE no gi bjj specialist looks like in UFC. ELITE no gi bjj practitioners are nightmares for wrestling. There is a reason why Volk gave Islam fits in the 1st fight in the grappling exchanges, it’s cause he had Craig Jones in his camp(a ELITE sport bjj blackbelt)But most of the elite guys in our sport stay there cause they can make good money now without going to mma. ILLA is elite. When I say that I mean he can hop into our sport bjj and hold his own against some of the best guys in the world at that weight class. An elite specialist at no bjj will give Islam fits(not to discredit Islam) on the ground. Notice how illa didn’t try to punch or kick through Charles guard on his back, he straight up passed him. Nobody has done that to Do Bronx that insane high level shyt right there.

We need that Ilia v Islam super fight. Let Islam beat JDM which I expect him to do and they need to line that fight up for 2026. fukk the other contenders, Dana needs to make sure that fight happens

Damn your son is a 20 yr old bjj black belt. How old was he when he started training? If you dont mind me asking.

I think the whole 155lb divison is excited to have a striker as champion.

Put him in at 6 1/2 yrs old and that’s ALL he’s done his whole life. Done won of 200 plus competitions was submitted adult black belts at the same weight when he was 14yrs. We’ve been all over the country with him competing. Only teen to had beat him between ages 14-18yrs old was Andrew Tackett(the current ufc bjj 170lbs champ). He’s also the youngest to earn his blackbelt in the state.

Wow much respect to you and your son. I got my oldest started in bjj this year. Hes 14 and man its tough sometimes. My white belt phase I was 28yrs old, im 34 now, so getting smashed every class I could take it, for him though hes still a kid and some of these people are ruthless. Its hard walking that line as a father between telling him its part of the process but also calling out guys that are going too rough.

Props to you also getting your son in there. And oh I know all to well about that thin line….my son always been a little bit on the bigger side son once he hit 12 men(including myself lol) would absolutely wreck him like it was BAD BAD😅. I told him tho the day will come when men won’t be able to muscle you or smash you the table will turn so let’s just keep putting the work. Well those tables started turning massively at 14. Then by 16 the brown and black belts were completely avoiding him in the gym cause now he was like 165lbs(and training for adcc trials)cause we were solely locked in on no gi(which is his love) so his top game, takedowns etc became insane. Now he’s 190lbs but moves like he’s 160. The coolest thing is it’s kept our bond TIGHT TIGHT and that’s the biggest blessing.
