There are some interesting instrumentals floating around but no one ever vocals any of em.
and this is why grime is dead. the instrumentals keep getting better and better but as time goes on the best grime spitters are choosing US style beats over the much more original and advanced grime beats that are being put out these days

Maybe this sudden fascination will push mc's to do more IDK. Just everything about grime kind of feels forced and contrived right now, there's not a lot of originality.

I mean when it comes to originality these two songs stand out for me, minimalist beats that are the epitome of grime and the way Nov laces the beat is perfection. We need more of this in grime and less dikkheads that beg trap beats and US style bragging lyrics

Yeah Novelist is kind of like the Joey Badass of Grime tbh, he needs to find his voice and stop trying to rap like he wishes it was 2003. I don't mind him approaching his beats like that (he's got some mucky riddims tbh) but he's called Novelist and I haven't heard him tell a fukking story once FFS.

:salute:

skepta is a fool but i still like his old bars, he can make grime but i really dont think he likes it like that anymore imo

Shutdown is like a perfect summary of where he's at rn, like it's not a bad song and the masses will eat it up but it just sounded so empty to me, I think you can tell his heart isn't really in it.

the shutdown track actually sounds like something he would of made around 2010-2011 when he made Been There Done That and Community Payback

Also I think you're on to something with Stormzy being an industry plant @Uncle Grime. The Mobo win and interviews with Rosenberg are suspect, I'd be convinced Stormzy was a plant if Grime wasn't so peripheral in the UK music scene.

I lurk on this shyt, thought I'd sign up because it's annoying when these threads pop up and people who probably werent even into Grime like that start giving these strange examples of Grime.

The other day I saw a don try post a Choong Family track as a Grime example

You are probably referring to me, that's the music I grew up listening to. Back in '04/'05 I didn't have the internet, wasn't old enough to go to events and pirate radio wasn't accessible for me (a lot of it was recorded after my bed time).

People need to stop posting bait Channel U tunes/trashy "Grime" mixtape tunes as examples, the real essence of Grime comes in the form of a radio set, shout out the people posting Channel U tunes talking about "real Grime" but have never locked pirate radio in their life :snoop:

If you wanna know what Grime sounds like, listen to...

It wasn't just pirate radio sets, it was mixtapes (from places like UK Record Shop, R.I.P.) and events. Channel U did however help provide a platform for Grime artists. I haven't seen anyone on the Coli claim Channel U = Grime. I don't see people claiming BET is a accurate representation of Hip-Hop either, they are just platforms.

I think I'm being quite harsh on Skepta at the moment because he went from that tune he did with Kano (lololol) to bringing Grime back to catting Project Pat's flow with A$AP Nobody and it's just confusing. Still got hopes for the album tho.

Not debating that brodie.

I'm just saying radio sets were and are the best representation of Grime, not mixtape tunes. Mixtapes only really came about in '06 before that only a few man were doing the mixtape thing. Pirate radio was where you made a name for yourself.

And cool you grew up on Choong Family videos, I grew up on Channel U as well. But how you can post one of their videos as an example of Grime is mind boggling tbh
